HOUNDS OF HELL Peter Clark Spectrum 128 This is a good, interesting game, with lots of eerie descriptions, minimal retracing of steps, and an objective that becomes clear as you play the game. There is a very helpful feature: if you haven't done everything you need to do in a particular area, the game tells you to keep exploring. At times you have to hurry and cannot waste time. All in all an excellent game. There are some red herrings – of course – but not enough to really be a problem (some are very interesting). There are many things to examine, some of which are necessary to do, some not). The game recognizes prepositions and adverbs (i.e. more than a two-word parser). Hints: Part 1: You need the spanner more than once. The only thing you need to carry into part 2 is what the man in the bar gives you. Chat him up. Examine things, but you don't need to have them with you after you do so. To perform some actions you will need to wait until everyone has gone to sleep. You yourself do not need to sleep. Revisit some locations. In the farmhouse you find an upturned hand. Would anything you have/find fit on it? Look behind the reception desk to get an object you need. You will have to get out of the barn. Sunlight and glass work wonders here. There is a padlocked door. What could you use to pick the lock? A bent wire, perhaps? You will see a table with three holes. Eventually you will find an object with three spikes. To make it work you will also need a glass. Then use you finger. Don't visit beyond the office until you have done this. Part 2: Even if you have no money, buy some libation at the inn. But drink something else first. Do what one does in a church, kneel and pray. Where do you drive to? Part 1 tells you where. Take the hint when the newsagent tells you to read the newspaper thoroughly. Turn the page to read on.
