THE LOST CRYSTAL Epic Software ------------------- Solution - Part One ------------------- Part one of the game only involves a few problems, with different ways of being solved. Your quest begins in a small field and in the distance you can see a windmill. Go to the mill, TAKE COIN and READ NOTE. Now KNOCK on the door and offer to HELP the miller with his sacks. GO INside the mill and UP the stairs. The miller is by the sack hoist and will tell you what to do. If you wish, you may ASK him FOR the KEY. Go back down to beyond the Stone Room and OPEN TRAPDOOR. Now you must drop all your possessions and TAKE the SACK. TIE SACK TO THE ROPE and TAKE EVERYTHING. Soon the milkman will knock, so you will need to answer the door. The miller will fall through a hole in the floor - no need to worry, he is okay. There are two ways to get into the gallery and get the sail pole. The first is to DRINK the MILK - but keep the empty bottle - and go upstairs and open the jammed door. The second way is to use the key which the miller may have given you, to open the mill store. There you will find a ladder which, if propped against the mill wall, will let you CLIMB UP and get the pole. To finish part one you should GET the LAMP and climb down the rope in the mill. The rope will snap and you will have entered Part 2 of the adventure. Here's where it starts to get tough. You will soon be reacquainted with the miller, so give him your lamp and he will light it, and wander off. You will have to move around a bit in the dark until you find him. He is usually near the bones of his previous assistants. Take the lamp and lead him to the bag of flour by saying FOLLOW ME. Now tell him to STAY HERE. Explore the passages, roll the boulder and climb on top. Go to the wishing well and throw in the coin - a whistle will then appear. Retrace your steps, but remember to roll the boulder back into place. Go and get the miller and sack of flour, then search for the skeleton. When you find it blow the whistle, but remember to leave the bottle at another location or else it will shatter. Collect your bottle and, with the miller, go to the stone door. Push the door and enter the cave. Take the key and get the miller to drop the sack of flour on the bogle's chair. You can now escape via the secret exit, although the miller is caught and killed. Now go to Merlin's cave and eat the cheese sandwich. Open the wardrobe with the key and get the cloak, but don't wear it yet. Next go to the troll's bridge and wear the cloak to escape detection. You have now completed part two of the adventure. The third part is the largest and most difficult. At the start you should blow your whistle to break the window of the mountain door and unbolt it. Now you can retrieve the hammer and monocle. Go to the rockfall and a secret passage will be revealed. The Priestess is here and she will swap objects with you. Exchange your whistle for a brass key and use this to enter Barnacle Bill's hut where you can take the canoe. Ensure you lock the door on the way out. Hide the canoe and hammer, return to the Priestess and give her the key. Now go and get the canoe, paddle and hammer and make a sortie past Barnacle Bill's hut. Fill the bottle and drink, then row the boat across the water. Find the red crystal and wear the cloak to get past the Hydra. The cloak will vanish as you enter the temple. Visit the white crystal room and take the necklace. Now go to the red crystal room and drop the crystal. You are transported back to the caves. Return to the Priestess and give her your bottle. She will give you a green crystal. Find the mermaid and give her the necklace which she will exchange for a weapon to kill the Hydra. Go to where you last rowed the canoe and GET BOAT with the sail pole. Row it again and kill the Hydra. Go to the grating, drop the hammer and return to the temple. Drop the green crystal in the green crystal room. The next bit is quite complex. Go to the Priestess and exchange your arquebus for a white crystal which you must give to the mermaid. Take the black crystal she gives you, to the Priestess, then give your monocle to the mermaid. You should have received a blue crystal and wooden key in return for your errands. Get the canoe once again. Go to the temple and open the door with the wooden key. Finally drop the blue crystal in the blue crystal room. When part four starts you will be in total darkness and without your possessions. Your first priority is to find a light source and the only one available is Merlin's luminous gem. Go and get the sword from under the black crystal room, and the stake at the end of the gloomy corridor. Open the vampire's coffin and kill him with the stake. You can now free Merlin. Open the dungeon door, let Merlin wander to the coffin, then tell him to follow you. Return to the dungeon, retrieve the hammer and bash the grating. Climb through and go back to the temple where you will need to kill the hydra again with the sword. Solution by Robert Henderson. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This solution originally appeared in the "Electron User", published by Database Publications. Typed up by Daniel Jameson Taken from www.stairwaytohell.com ------------------- Solution - Part Two ------------------- As promised, here is my solution to The Lost Crystal, which takes over from where the Electron User one (on STH) stops (well, almost ... that says that you have to kill the hydra with the sword when you've gone through the grating, but you can't do that because it's got two heads. So you just go straight into the temple). It'll get players to the end of the game but unfortunately I've not managed to get full marks on it - the User Guide I had hinted you could get extra points when the milkman arrived near the beginning but I never found out how. After climbing through the grating, go into the temple and down the main corridor, then take the turning to the west. At the end of this corridor is a cupboard. Unlock and open it using the key from the vampire's coffin. Take the bucket and the boot, and wear the boot. Go back down to Merlin's cell and then find your way to the junction of three corridors where there is a message on the wall (head north, then west, then south from the cell). There is an orange crystal here. Ask Merlin to read the message, and then go down the passage to the west. When you come to the pool of water you will be able to cross it safely because you are wearing the boot. You won't need Merlin with you for this bit so don't throw him the boot - if you do it'll fall in the water and you won't be able to get back. At the end of the passage is an indigo crystal. Return to the other side of the pool of water and fill the bucket. Ask Merlin to follow you again. Go back to the junction and then continue eastwards. Your way will be blocked by a dragon, but throw the bucket of water at it and it will dissolve. At the end of the passage is a yellow crystal. Now you need to collect as many crystals as you and Merlin can carry between you. The violet one is in the vampire's coffin, and the red, green and blue ones underneath their respective temple rooms (you will need to specify each colour to pick them up). When you have as many as possible, go up through the cell grating, enter the temple and drop the crystals in the central chamber. Retrace your steps back to the cell and then collect the remaining crystals. When you have them return to the central chamber of the temple (you'll see the hydra on the way but you won't need to kill it) and drop them. When you've dropped the last one the Rainbow Crystal will regenerate. Pick up the Rainbow Crystal and go back down through the grating to the cell. Find your way to underneath the white crystal room, where there is a coffin. Open the coffin, and then drop the crystal to complete the adventure.
