SHIP OF DOOM /by Sean Ellis - Incentive Software/ ================================================= This game is expanded (and unknown) version on Artic's Ship of Doom, made by Incentive Software using the Graphic Adventure Creator. But, if you liked limited Artic's version, obligately search for this update. If your source of software is WOS (World of Spectrum), you can find this game under a title "Adventure C : Ship of doom (upd2)", and a file name is SHPDMUP2.Z80. In comparation with the original game, this game has added pictures, and much more locations and events, so it can not be solved using solution of the original Artic's game. There are two main reasons for this: - You can not drink a drink in a galactic bar, without eating something first; - The control panel with an escape button is damaged; you must do a lot of tasks to repair it. In opposite to the original game, this game is strictly deterministic, so it is possible to give exact step by step solution. Solution: --------- S, TURN HANDLE (to open a panel; you will be asked do you want to go on board), YES, W, W, W, TAKE GLASSES, WEAR GLASSES, E, E, E, E (without glasses you will not see the microbattery, but only a dark corner), TAKE BATTERY, DROP GLASSES, W, S, S, S, TAKE ROD, INSERT BATTERY, INTO ROD (you will make a sonic screwdriver), N, W, TAKE GUN, S, W, POINT SONIC (at glass cover, to release a key), TAKE KEY, DROP SONIC, N, W, N, N, TAKE DISK, S, S, S, TAKE REMOTE, N, E, N, TAKE COIN, E, E, E, E, E, S, S, LOOK (you will see that a disk drive is empty), INSERT DISK, INTO DRIVE (you will open a passage down), W, INSERT KEY, INTO HOLE (you will release a warm air), W, N, TAKE HOOK, E, TAKE TORCH, N, W, W, S (a warm air will melt the ice, the girl will appear from the ice, and a hidden door will appear), KILL GIRL (not very necessary, but later she may strangle you - she is not friendly), SHOOT DOOR (to make a hole in it), ENTER DOOR, TAKE KNIFE, DROP GUN, E, TAKE MIRROR, W, W, S, SHINE TORCH, AT BEAM (to neutralize the dangerous light beam), DROP TORCH, W, N, TAKE PILLS (this is a comphresive food), S, E, S, CUT ROPE, WITH KNIFE, E, DROP KNIFE, W, TAKE ROPE, E, D, E, LOOK UP (you will see a ledge above), TIE ROPE, TO HOOK, THROW ROPE (do not climb up yet), W, W, LOOK (you see audio equipment set to maximum), POINT REMOTE (to turn off audio equipment), S, E (if you didn't turn off audio equipment, soundwaves will overload your minds here), E, TAKE ANTIDOTE, DROP REMOTE, W, W, N, E, E (don't forget that you threw a rope here), CLIMB ROPE, N, PAY BARMAN, WITH COIN (so you can take a drink; also, a blank card will appear), TAKE CARD, TAKE DRINK, EAT PILLS (typing HELP here suggests that you must eat something before drinking a drink; the pills are poisoned, but don't care - you have an antidote), DRINK DRINK (you will become drunk and fall asleep; you will wake up in a prison), DRINK ANTIDOTE (to cure yourself), USE MIRROR (to fuse the bars; note that the game will not accept more logical FUSE BARS, but will accept quite illogical FUSE MIRROR - i think that it is a bug), E, PRESS RED (the computer room - do not press button yet, in opposite to original game by Artic), TAKE BOX, D, PRESS GREEN (you are now in the map room), E, E (don't forget a passage down which you opened using a disk), D, S, W, S, E, S, INSERT CARD, INTO SLOT (to authorize the blank card; you will get I. D. card), TAKE CARD, W, S, E, LOOK (you will see a shelf high up), CLIMB BOX, LOOK, TAKE LINK, D (don't forget to climb down, else you will fall from the box on a next move), D, W, S, NWOD (mirrored DOWN; in the mirror room you must type mirrored direction to get out, e.g. HTRON, TSAE or NWOD), INSERT CARD, INTO SLOT (to authorize yourself; without the autorization, you can not go anywhere from this room), N, PRESS BUTTON (to open a door in the east wall), E (in the lift again), PRESS RED (again in the computer room), PRESS BUTTON (you will activate self destruction, and you will have only 30 turns to escape, so use the shortest possible way), D, PRESS GREEN, N, E, N, N, W, N, N, INSERT LINK, INTO HOLE (to repair the panel; without this the escape button will not work), PRESS BUTTON (the end). Note: This is not the only solution (see below). Hints: ------ - Typing HELP, LOOK and LOOK will give a useful clues often. - Type TEXT to turn picture drawing off, and GRAPHICS to turn picture drawing on again. - The score in the game is simply 255 minus the number of turns. You can score 100 at the end of the game only if you perform a shortest possible solution in a 155 turns (without looking and examining anything). Using my solution you will score about 90. - The game has one nasty bug: it tries to simplify getting objects on way that you don't need to type a noun after TAKE or GET. But, this is not implemented properly, so if you drop two objects on the same location, you can not select which object you want to get. For example, if a knife and a rope are on the same location, typing TAKE will take the knife whatever you type after TAKE (e.g. typing TAKE ROPE will not take the rope). - An alternative way for entering the galactic bar exist, without using the rope: take a gravity belt from the equipment room, and wear it. After this, waiting in the gravity room will transport you directly in the galactic bar. Using this, you can solve the game without any need for a knife, a hook and a rope... - Do not try to release a human from android conversion room nor to get a strap because it is just a trap. Also, this game is full of traps, do not take objects not mentioned in the solution, nor press various buttons which usage is not explained in the solution. Some objects are deadly even for looking (for example, a switch in the electric room). Avoid entering into the trap room and into the incinerator - any action in them except going out is deadly. - In android pleasure room you will find an android girl. You can fuck, screw, shag, frig, lay or rape her, and a message which will appear depend of used verb for doing this. Also, try to pay her... Be aware that in opposite to original Artic's game, this girl is not such friendly - if you go too far, she will strangle you (do not trust women). Comment: -------- Original version of this game (also known as Adventure C) was popular before many years, and it was avaliable even for ZX81. Playing atmosphere was good, but this was limited text only game, so it is probably a reason why Sean Ellis decided to make an updated version. This updated version has pictures (about 20, some of them are identical), but many of them are quite simple. I don't like fact that an ugly empty picture is present on each location on which other picture is not present. Also, descriptions of the locations are very short due to shortage of the memory (GAC allows only about 20K of free RAM). Instead, the autor decided to increase a number of locations, tasks, and messages in the game. The parser is two-word parser, but with quite rich dictionary (about 200 words).
