MAGIC CASTLE /Gilsoft/ ====================== This game depends of some random elements, but it is possible to give an exact step by step solution anyway. Here will be given two solutions. The first one is the most logical solution. But, once you finish the game using this solution, you will be challenged to find the shortest solution (in 75 moves). So, this solution is given here too (without any comments, because they are the same as those given with the first solution). Solution I: ----------- This is the most logical solution in my opinion: GET MITTENS, WEAR MITTENS (a protection against coldness), E, E, S, U, GET BATTERY, D, E, GET TORCH, SWITCH ON TORCH (no power), USE BATTERY, SWITCH ON TORCH, W, N, GET SCREWDRIVER, W, GET AXE, N, GET KEY, S, W, S, E, E, E, E, E, E, DROP TORCH, E, E, SHARP AXE (on grindstone), N, EXAMINE SUITCASE (it has a lock), REMOVE MITTENS, UNLOCK SUITCASE, WITH KEY (note that you are unable to unlock the suitcase while wearing the mittens), WEAR MITTENS, GET CRUCIFIX, S, W, DRINK, W, DROP KEY, S, S, S (note that the crucifix protects you while you are in the church), S, D, S, EXAMINE COFFIN (the lid has screws), UNSCREW SCREWS, WITH SCREWDRIVER, READ PAPER (a hint), GET RING, WEAR RING, N, GET CAN, EXAMINE DOOR (doesn't appear very strong), BREAK DOOR, WITH AXE, E, DROP AXE, DROP SCREWDRIVER, E, U, SWIM, E, EXAMINE DOOR (the hinges are rusty), OIL HINGES, S, U, SAY POYP, D, N, W, N, E, W, N, W, N, W, N (well done). Solution II: ------------ This is the shortest possible solution (in 75 moves). This solution assumes that you know the magic word "poyp" in advance. GET MITTENS, WEAR MITTENS, E, E, S, U, GET BATTERY, D, E, GET TORCH, USE BATTERY, W, N, GET SCREWDRIVER, W, GET AXE, N, GET KEY, S, W, S, E, SWITCH ON TORCH, E, E, E, E, E, DROP TORCH, E, E, SHARP AXE, N, DROP MITTENS, USE KEY, GET CRUCIFIX, S, W, DRINK, W, DROP KEY, S, S, S, S, D, S, USE SCREWDRIVER, GET RING, WEAR RING, N, GET CAN, USE AXE, E, DROP AXE, DROP SCREWDRIVER, E, U, SWIM, E, OIL HINGES, S, U, SAY POYP, D, N, W, N, E, W, N, W, N, W, N Hints: ------ - There is a lot of completely useless objects in the game. Ignore them. - Don't try to kick football: it is explosive!? - You can not pass through the tunnel without the lit torch: you will break your leg in the darkness. Also, do not try to pass trhough the tunnel more than twice, else your torch will go out. - Do not try to make any noise on the taxi stop (for example, to hail a taxi): you will be arrested for making a noise, and a policeman will send you into a minefield!? - Do not play with the garden gnome; he is not very friendly. - If you accidentally enter the minefild, type N, E, W, S, S to reach the railway track, or N, E, W, S, S, to reach the log cabin. Note, however, that you can become injured randomly while you are walking accross the minefield. - If you are lost in the forest, typing N, N, N, S, E, W, N will always leave you out of the forest, no matter where you are (note however that this is not always the shortest exit). - If you are not carrying the crucifix, there is a big chance that you will not leave the church alive - something will bit you on the neck... - It is possible to pass a lion, but this is just a matter of fortune. Comment: -------- An average text only game, written by Graame Yeandle (the author of well-known adventure written system The Quill). Although it seems that the game is written using The Quill, it is written using some Quill-like game engine which is very probably predecessor of The Quill. The parser is a strict verb-noun parser. The game itself is relatively limited and easy to solve, although there is one very nasty puzzle in it. Namely, it is not possible to unlock a suitcase while you are wearing the mittens, but you will not get any hint about why you can't do this. All you got is a stereotype "I can't" message. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game solution by Zeljko Juric If something is not clear, ask me using e-mail: zjuric@utic.net.ba ***************************************************** Displayed on the Classic Adventures Solution Archive: http://solutionarchive.com
