Captain Kook (Captain_Kook_hints.txt)

CAPTAIN KOOK
by Paul Cardin (The Silent Corner)
Essential Myth
Spectrum 48

Despite the "kooky" title, this is a very, very difficult game. Your aim
is to save the Quareen and yourself, transmit a distress signal call to
the nearest Chrozon outpost and return home. Although hints are provided
by typing HELP in some locations, I believe you need to get the radio
first, before any more are given to you. At the beginning, you are told
what you need to do.

The hints written by Gareth Pitchford are helpful though sometimes
difficult to decipher.

In many locations you will often need to use more than two word phrases.

Additional hints for Part 1:

Always pick up the ball wearing the gloves. Otherwise, do not wear the
gloves.

Don't press the green button.

Spin the ball in the cavity.

To get the computer to give you objects, TYPE ISSUE <object>.

Don't go up to the observation dome without a rope and the powerpack.

The plench is needed three times – to open the canister, to stop the disc,
and to put in the resistor.

Feel the hatch, the set, the cover, etc.
]
You need to be stronger before you can pick up certain object. The gas
might help.

There are times when you need to wait, even though the game does not
recognize WAIT. Do this at the set and at the computer. Be prepared to
repeat wait (or the previous message many, many times).

You need the card to read the readout.

While help is available at several locations, I found it difficult to
access until you got the radio. Yet there are several things to do before
you can get it.

Additional hints for Part 2:

Once you have the casket, you can put things in it and take things out of
it.

Drop the diode on the metal stairs, and then fish it out. There is a
chance element here, so keep repeating your action until you get it back.

Keep the rag – you will need it again.

Once in the transporter at the north end of the tunnel, PUSH WALL to get
it moving.

All in all there are 40 rooms in the tunnel.

Use the charges all at once for maximum effect.

As in part 1, wear the gloves when handling the ball. Put the spider on
the ball to get the balls multiplying.

The transmuter requires two objects.

The bracken can be burned away.

The spider will crawl away unless it is in its home.

Although the tree stumps seem sturdy, they aren't.

Don't drop the phial. Use the oil on the rusty plate before "lubricating"
the robot. Be patient or explore the outside. It takes time for the oil to
work its way into the robot.
