LONE BRAVE unknown author and publisher Spectrum 48 This is a very interesting, quite challenging game. While many of the puzzles are logical, the game suffers from "find the verb" problems. There are some actions you need to do in a particular order. Every item you find is useful in some way; some more than once. Hints: You will sometimes get hints even if your actions are unsuccessful. There is a limit on the number of objects you can carry. But you can wear all the Sun God items without this affecting your limit. Most instructions require only two words, but there are several where more words are needed. These times include: getting the horse to a specific location where it can be trapped; so you can wear one of the Sun God items you find; making a light source; lighting the light source; killing the deer; using the bow. Sometimes when you try an action, you get the message "TO WHAT". This is somewhat misleading as you can and need to use other prepositions as well. These include WITH, AT, and IN. Shooting the deer with the bow doesn't work – you need to try something else. Two objects are needed for this. Hint: what did David use against Goliath? To make that weapon, use it as a verb. You see rapids at the water's edge. Since you can spend hours looking for the correct verb, try STEP OVER RAPIDS. Items that can be worn, should be worn. Can't wear one of them? What object has "many uses"? SEARCH and EXAMINE all locations. You soon find that you cannot cross the desert on foot. So you need to find a means of transportation. This game is very particular. EXAMINE TREES is not the same as EXAMINE TREE. The weapon you made doesn't work with some beasts. What are animals afraid of? One animal can be scared off by fire (at least the first time you meet it). With another you need to be very quick, so use a verb that means "take quickly and forcefully". Don't have the means to kill attacking animals? What would an Indian brave use? Once you have found the sticks you will know what to make. What to do with the horse? Box it in somewhere appropriate. The horse runs out of the pass? Block it once it's there. Can't ride the horse? What would an Indian brave do with a wild stallion? Make it docile first. Need footwear? You have to make some shoes. The thongs don't work as footwear? What else could you use? What do Indians wear on their feet? What is that footwear made from? Is there some around somewhere? To dismount the horse, DROP it.
