Crash Garrett (Crash_Garrett.txt)

CRASH GARRETT - by Patrick Dublanchet (ERE Informatique, 1987)

Atari ST and Commodore Amiga (see notes for this bugged version of the game)

Walkthrough by Juan Duc

Talk to Mongrel, Punch Mongrel, W, Look, Examine workbench, Get rope, Climb
in plane, Examine glove compartment, Read message (the combination to the
safe: 9L2R7L4R), Down, E, Go to Porterville, Go to office, Insist, Go to
Hollywood, Phone Spade, Look, Examine workbench, Take grapnel, Take lock
pick, Phone Glory, Go to Glory, Wait, Look, Search bedroom, Go to Hollywood,
Go to Porterville, Go to hospital, Climb fence, Talk to Indian, Remove
helmet, Ask for help, SE, NE, N, Get shovel

Note 1: Now you are in front of the well. Here is where the Amiga version
seems to begin it's chain of fatal bugs that make it unfinishable. I thought
that these "bugs" might be due to the possibility that all copies found
around the Internet were corrupted, but I actually tested an original disk of
the game with an Amiga 500 and the same bugs are found there too, so it seems
that the Amiga version was released with these fatal bugs. You are supposed
to pick up the shovel at this location, but in the Amiga version when you try
to do that it keeps giving you the message that appears when items are not
around ("You got better eyesight than me, kid!") In the Atari ST version you
pick it up immediately and it appears on your inventory list. You can go Down
the well immediately after getting the shovel and dispatch Wilbur (Hit Wilbur
followed by Shift + 4; see further down for an explanation of this) if you
are playing the Atari ST version, or, if you like, you can do this:

NW, Look window, SE, (if you are playing with the Amiga version, you are able
to take the shovel now, once Wilbur has come out of the well, but it still
does not show up in your inventory)

Now you are back at the well again, but Wilbur has come out of the well, but
you can take care of him this way:

Hit Wilbur (execute the command by pressing the Shift key and then the 4 key,
otherwise you will not hit him with enough strength and agility to avoid him
killing you; this also applies to the Amiga version of the game)

There is another bug here in the Amiga version. If you Look, you will see the
ear ring here. This does not happen in the Atari ST version of the game,
where the ear ring appears later on at Sharky's office. In the Amiga version
you can Take it here, but this is useless because the bugs later on make it
impossible to continue the game (see note 2)

Down, W, Look, Press red button, Raise Hitler's arm, Take Cynthia, Down, Pull
lever, Go to Porterville, Go to Glory, Wait until midday, Wait, Talk to
Lotta, Down, Attack twins, Kiss Lotta, Go to Sharkey, Look, Ring bell, Ask
about Glory, Confront Sharkey, Kill them (again, execute this command with
Shift + 4, otherwise Crash will not be fast enough to avoid getting killed),
Look

Note 2: Here is where the Amiga version of the game messes again, this time
fatally. The ring does not appear here (it already appeared at the well), and
you can't Take off the picture to find the safe. It doesn't seem possible to
overcome this last bug, thus the game can't continue.

Search office, Get it, Take off picture, Open safe, 9L2R7L4R, Get out, Go to
airport, Go to hospital, NW, N (once again, execute this command with Shift +
4, otherwise Garrett will not be fast enough and will get shot), S, W, Shoot
padlock, W, NE, SE, Wait, Wait, Wait, Wait, Capture Helga, Down, W, Look,
Read book, Examine table, Drop gun, Get bottle, Give bottle to Helga

-THE END-

Note 3: The game's end seems rather disappointing today, but considering that
back then the author apparently had the intention of making a sequel, it's
not really bad. Unfortunately, said sequel never materialized and the story
thus remains "incomplete".
