S (into open country - you are weak from hunger - a hawk flies overhead and a beggar is nearby), GIVE COIN TO BEGGAR (he gives you a whistle), BLOW WHISTLE (the hawk recognises the sound and thinks you are it's master), W, N (lake - a game bird flies overhead), SHOOT BIRD (good shot - it lands nearby), S, E (back to open country - you now see a dead duck), GET BRUSHWOOD, LIGHT BRUSHWOOD (using the flint - you make a small fire), GET DUCK, EXAMINE DUCK, COOK DUCK (now see roast duck), EAT DUCK (this satiates your hunger), DROP FLINT. W (trading post), EXAMINE GOODS, GIVE NUGGET TO OWNER (he gives you a water bottle), N (lake), FILL BOTTLE, S, E, S (into desert), BLOW WHISTLE (the hawk appears and flies northwest), NW, BLOW WHISTLE (the hawk flies southwest), SW, DRINK WATER, BLOW WHISTLE (the hawk flies south), S (oasis - a Bedhouin here is distressed), BLOW WHISTLE (the hawk appears and the joyous Bedhouin gives you a pair of climbing boots which you wear), W (open ground), W (trail - a lion is about to attack a boy), SHOOT LION (the boy is saved), W (into village of the Kalmad - the tribal chief celebrates the safe return of his son and gives you a shiny piece of metal), EXAMINE METAL (it's part of a larger piece), E, E, E (back to oasis). U (base of mountain), U (narrow ledge), E (through a gap in the rock), D (Shrine of Kalmad), EXAMINE WALL (there is a circular hole through which a ray of sunlight beams), LIFT THIRD STEP (you find a disc hidden behind the step), GET DISC, EXAMINE DISC (has a part missing), PUT METAL IN DISC (they fit to form a medallion), EXAMINE IDOL (in it's forehead is a jewelled star), PUT MEDALLION IN HOLE (it clicks perfectly in place), WAIT (a beam of sunlight pierces the medallion and is deflected to the star in the idol's forehead... the star reflects the beam to a hidden alcove), EXAMINE ALCOVE (on the alcove is a deadly viper curled around the Black Pearl), OPEN CAGE (a mongoose pops it's head out, sees the snake and kills it), GET PEARL. WELL DONE You have succeeded in your mission into Darkest Africa.
