Synopsis

Plot

Your adventure begins at midnight in the center of a medieval castle. You have no possessions and you know nothing about the castle itself. The goal of this game is to escape from the castle. But beware! The Enchanted Castle is full of traps and dangers! Escape will require observation, persistence, and wits.

Notes

Seems to have been developed over a long period of time as version 3 of the game is dated 2000.

There is a review of an earlier version of the game in Syntax magazine, issue 38, from 1995; which suggests that the game had been around a while by then.

This game is more of an encyclopedia than an interactive experience. There are endless, overdone descriptions of buttresses, architraves, beams etc. in most rooms. The kitchen's description is mainly a long list of obscure herbs in alphabetical order and so on. All of this merely magnifies the primitive nature of the parser which understands very little by way of verbs (no examine, pull, push, move, look under for example) or nouns. This has the inevitable consequence that practically none of the hundreds of items in the large number of rooms can be interacted with.

If you wish to undertake a vicarious tour of a medieval castle then go ahead. If you are looking for a proper text adventure set in a castle you are best trying Castle Ralf.
