There's a well in a location after you've jumped the stream.

It's a while since I played (and finished) this game, so I'm tapping memory ducts to answer your questions.

The stranger in the reception room can be vanquished with an item bought in the shop.

Yes, there is a point to the well, but it relates to much further on in the game.

Hi, Terri,

Well, you can't ignore all the random elements (and need to have a certain strength level to beat the 'butch guard'), but why bother? It's a very poor game and probably unworthy of further effort.

I think you might have been playing the 'bugged' version of 'Set Up'.

There's a debugged version at WoS.

Your partial solution doesn't work because the whole point of the game is to take all the evidence found to the Commander on Aesculapius to secure a reprieve. And you only seem to ...

I've checked the programme's listing and it looks as though killing the dwarf might be a random element. However, have you tried drinking the juice before challenging him?
