Re: Information Regarding The if-archive.org. Web Site
Sorry Alastair I did agree with you although I probably should have made myself clearer. The thing that makes me laugh is the fact they say that this is temporary. If they are predicating the restoration of how things were on some kind of granularity whereby they systematically examine hordes of Web ...

Re: Information Regarding The if-archive.org. Web Site
Which is an unnecessary censure too many. In a country where you now have to provide a photograph and an email address to withdraw euro currency we are moving away from the thin end of the totalitarian wedge.

Why not block the entire World Wide Web? You can't be too careful eh?

Re: Information Regarding The if-archive.org. Web Site
Yes I had thought of the work around. It is more the principle of the thing and what they might get up to next. O2 for instance block archive.org unless you request access and can prove you are over eighteen years of age. A rather odd conceit considering much of what they seem to consider admissible.

Information Regarding The if-archive.org. Web Site
It is extremely annoying that one cannot download any software from the above web site from the U.K. at the moment. To quote the www.gov.uk web site:
Due to the UK Online Safety Act, all games on the IF Archive are currently unavailable to users in the United Kingdom.
This broad restriction is ...

The version on spectrumcomputing.co.uk crashes with some screen dumps after the first few moves. At 127k it is really pushing the memory envelope. There may be other versions floating around the internet which are more stable.

I suspected something along those lines. Or, as I was following a young woman at the time, maybe the cyber police were to blame. Get the kicking boots on Sarge.

A Forgotten Game
For some unaccountable reason I recently recalled a fragment from a (I think) DOS game played back in the early noughties, although I suspect it was from back in the eighties/early nineties originally. I became irrevocably stuck on a problem based around a dog inside a bush, which resisted all ...

Re: Adam Atkinson
I knew about his illness as I had always informed him of my progress in the Phoenix games over the years - including the odd bug like the freezing of objects in Parc. He helped me over the line with Acheton too back in the day. A very decent, self effacing individual and a sad loss.

Cranston Manor For The North Star
The .nsi file for Cranston Manor (cranst.nsi) appears to be corrupted. I downloaded the 88kb single density file from two separate web sites bu they both appear to be buggered. I have the text only version for the Atari (and the split text/graphics version for the Apple II) which I can run via ...
