Re: What game to play?

I can't give you a top 5, and I know this falls slightly outside your target range, but I found 2003's Slouching Towards Bedlam highly impressive.

... which leads me to another topic. I was checking some of the games over at IFDb, and I was wondering: what is it with these technology names?

Re: Adventure Challenge

Aaaand my best guess would be... Level 9's Fantasy - which sounds dreamlike *and* on a higher level ;)

Just tell me that I've won - I can find the prize myself afterwards :D

Re: Adventure Challenge

Of course I'm cheating! Site owners gotta have a few perks :)

And I'd say fire away on the guesses!

Re: Adventure Challenge

Infocom's overlooked gem, Pregnant Mammoths in the Sky!

Oh, wait.... Cloud 99 is probably a better guess :)

I'll give it a go and then this seems like a likely candidate for a Starting Guide

Archimedes

I can see that there are quite a few exclusive titles for the Archimedes - but I have no clue how to get up and running. Anyone who can help?

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Never played Battle Masters, but incidentally my wife and I are going to try another Holmes case this weekend (guess who asked Santa to get the wife something nice last Christmas ;) )

Btw, if you're into tactical fantasy combat, give Summoner Wars a look - it's a lot of fun.

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Alex, mi amigo - you'll have enough coasters to throw a cocktail party for half your city! Terrible, just terrible!

....

(Just kidding :D) I had a lot of fun and got right back into the old FF mood. Mind you, the pnp is missing a lot of features of the final version, but the core mechanics are in ...

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Great - I don't know what it is about goats and Kickstarter projects. People also went totally bunkers over a goat during the latest Broken Sword campaign :D
I've prepared the print'n'play version and will test it during the weekend. If the test game turns out to be terrible, I guess I'll have a ...

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Re: 7th Continent - why not go for the €59 pledge then? You still get the large number of KS exclusives (which I'm not a fan of, mind you), and if you like the game you can always get more expansions later. If not, then you've saved €30 :)
I think you'll get a lot of playing time for your money, so ...

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Look certainly interesting. I'll think about it. Did you ever play the official Fighting Fantasy board games?
I tried the free print'n'play version (a small teaser game), and it seemed like a lot of fun.The campaign only runs for another couple of days if you want to join in :)ox

Oh, I tried ...

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

As an avid boardgamer, I just had to back The 7th Continent , which is sort of the game equivalent of a FF gamebook. I think it looks very promising indeed :D (and a bit pricey, but there seems to be a lot of content included)

Take a look:

Re: Adventure games in popular culture

Ah, cool! BBT is a show that, by all accounts, I should have enjoyed - it just never clicked with me. But I'll be happy to give it another go with the Zork episode :)

Adventure games in popular culture

Caught a preview of the new Ridley Scott film, The Martian, yesterday. It's quite good on many levels, but I have to admit that my inner geek was particularly thrilled when our leading man opened up a laptop and started talking about Zork II and Leather Goddesses of Phobos (admittedly it's only the ...
