Re: Phipps/Toms system

Aye, 'tis a sorry state of affairs indeed!
But fear not, for a message to the site's owner has been dispatched forthwith :)

He has another one here: http://yeandle.webs.com/advent
though it's not very detailed.

Re: Phipps/Toms system

I've found a site that has reproduced the article, and another that offers a PDF of the article (about two thirds of the way down, under the heading 'Feature articles' - the HTML link on that page is no longer available, except via the Internet Archive).
As it happens, the HTML link is for Graeme ...

Re: Phipps/Toms system

By the way, I'm a bit puzzled by Greedy Gulch. According to the packaging, it was written "with a machine coded English command line scanner for fast word recognition".

But Toms' system was written in BASIC, right?

Re: Phipps/Toms system

I think it makes good sense to add the system. As you point out, every half-baked BASIC system doesn't warrant its own entry, but this one seems special enough to include.

I've added it as Trevor Toms adventure system and written a brief intro. I've located him via LinkedIn and will try to drop him ...

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

I don't know if anyone's seen the new documentary From Bedrooms to Billions (yet) - it charts the British gaming industry from homebrewn BASIC games to gazillion pounds projects. Apart from it being really good and covering an important part of gaming history, it features pretty much all major UK ...

Re: Genre Suggestions

Looking back at those pyramids once more.... would "archaeology" be a good compromise? I could live with it :)

Re: Genre Suggestions

Yes, this has been a royal mess. The (unpublished) company was intended to show that a game such as X-Men was in fact a w.i.p. by Adv. Intl. So if you clicked on AI, the game would turn up in the listing, but clearly be displayed as non-existant.

An entirely new category, Publishing status, is a ...

Re: Genre Suggestions

One more question re. the lost games - my initial idea was only to use it for games that we positively know to have existed (due to reviews or otherwise). But we have quite a few titles in our database that can only be labelled as dubious - ie. games that we only know of via advertising or otherwise ...

Re: Genre Suggestions

Ok, I've added a (lost game) genre - so feel free to update where appropriate!

and "archaeology" would be a unnecessarily generic name - I can't recall any games that would fit this genre outside of the ones with the pyramidal setting, anyway

Well there are more games within the archaeological ...

Re: Genre Suggestions

Perhaps it's an unclear term. I added it recently because I kept bumping into pyramid-themed games. There seem to be a lot of these.

Re: You are the hero - Fighting Fantasy gamebooks

Having young children around the house (at least one of whom has been reading FF books) , I can testify that said image might be a bit over the top :)
