Re: Do you know anything about the history of these games?

The odd thing is that the Oric version has a different title than the Speccy (Kilburn Encounter vs Cricklewood). Grant openly admits that his recollections are a bit hazy here and there. Because Kilburn's close to Cricklewood? (They are areas within London, the distance between them is about two ...

Re: Do you know anything about the history of these games?

Grant has given me a long, eloborate reply, which I'll hopefully be able to mirror on the site, but the gist of it is:
- Pythonesque was (as you rightly guessed) written first, originally on a PET.
- Supersoft picked it up for commercial release as Streets of London.
- Cricklewood Incident was ...

He is indeed the right one, so I hope to have an answer very soon.

Re: Do you know anything about the history of these games?

Fascinating - this type of question is one of the reasons why I love being associated with a site like this :)

My impression has always been that Pythonesque was a hacked version of Streets, given the theme and lack of an official license.
The games were co-written by Grant Privett. I found a 50 ...

Re: About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop

Well, after much mailing to and fro, the case is closed (sort of). The Guild and TG Adventure Software are indeed one and the same company, and the games listed over on Gamebase64 as TGAS are actually just plain, normal PD titles which The Guild decided to release on a number of discs.

In all these ...

Re: Search by "date when added to site"?

Mark, as always we like to make our users happy when their suggestions make sense ;)

I think it sounds like a useful feature, and I'm sure other users will agree.
Does "recent" imply a set number of days (say, 10 or 20), or is this selectable by the user?

Re: Duplicate entry

Well spotted - I looked up all games by Mario Moeller when adding this game, but there's a typo in his first name in the original name, hence it didn't show up :)

Re: About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop

Excellent advice, Alex! I've written to Jason already. And it would seem that we have quite some way to go when it comes to TGAS titles in our database :)

About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop...

I've been adding some game data from Aran (iamaran), which he has gathered from Gamebase 64. Well, as it turns out GB64 has some information which is in need of an update.

So can anyone help me out here:
Is "The Guild Adventure Software" the same company as "The Guild"? I'd say it's not, given the ...

Re: Erik the Viking error in walkthrough?

Argh, it's been ages and ages since I set sail with Erik :) I'll check through my C64 solution a.s.a.p. It's possible that there are errors in it.

Re: on line

Thanks, mate - appreciate it :)

I'm glad that things appear to be back in place. Let's just say that the atmosphere in the web host's support forum went from supportive and understand to frustrated and finally quite hostile. If I were running an e-shop I'd probably select a new host next time ;)

I don't know about the C64 version, but on other platforms, the latter release was expanded with more puzzles, more locations and an improved parser.

I could send you a snaphot file (.SNA) of the second part which you can play without manually using the cassette recorder. Unfortunately when I try to upload it to this forum I get the message that the extension is not allowed to be uploaded nor winzip files not even when I try to send it by ...

One year

As I've written on the front page, the new site has been online for exactly one year now :) I think it's become a really terrific resource along the way. Thanks for the effort, everybody!
