Re: Starting guides for various platforms

For the record, I've added a C64 guide and updated the first entry in the thread to list the guides available. Personally I think they're very useful.

Re: Out of Date Emulator Links

Thanks for the reminder - I have updated the page accordingly. The page could probably do with an overhaul, as I've just kept updating version numbers instead of adding newer and better emulators (there's gotta be something better than Apple Oasis out there!). Input is welcome.

Re: Starting guides for various platforms

Better late than never - I've placed the submitted guides (BBC, Amstrad, Dragon and Sharp MZ) in the intro texts that pop up when you browse the respective platforms. It's the best I could come up with for the time being.

Re: CASA News RSS feed?

And it's listed there now :) Would probably like a few pics to freshen up the news section. If anybody has ideas, let me know.

Re: CASA News RSS feed?

THanks for the heads-up - I hadn't noticed. There are a heap of settings so I've pretty much used the standard settings for now.

Incidentally we've also selected Atom for our news section feed. It's almost ready; the last details are being worked on.

Re: CASA News RSS feed?

Jacob, just decide what you want on three counts:
As indicated above, my knowledge in this area is somewhat limited, so feel free to correct me where I'm wrong.

>Feed format (RSS 1, RSS 2, Atom)
My initial choice would be Atom, but I'm sure some of you have a firmer basis to form a list of pros ...

Re: CASA News RSS feed?

(I hope I'm posting this in the good forum section: I don't know what's the difference between "Site feedback & announcements" and "CASA 2.0", now that the site is CASA 2.0...)
The major difference is that the 2.0 section is for admins only, so it's mostly for development stuff, coding and such ...

Hi Suzie, and welcome to the forum!

I haven't played it before but gave it a spin yesterday. The map layout seems fairly.... annoying! I'll get back to you if I find something useful :)

Re: The Mystery of the Java Star

There are a lot of borderline cases. I've just received some data for Alice in Wonderland which I seem to remember as a "sorta" adventure'ish game. I'm not sure it qualifies, but it does have a fair share of puzzles and text.
I guess we'll just have to handle it on a case-by-case basis?

Re: Synopsis - what to aim for?

If there's one thing I'm not, it's fair ;)
Fair (!) enough. At times it can be difficult to tell how to judge remarks made in writing ;)

So, if you're able to provide a personal perspective, great! If you can't, there's no reason to feel bad about the synopsis 'just' being a blurb.
I couldn't ...

Re: Drawing maps

Actually I'm still stuck with Visio ;) My computer skills must be in rapid decline, because after struggling with a Ruby installation for some time, I gave up and reverted to the tried-and-true. I'll have to give it a shot again at some point.
But for my money, Visio is easy to use and fairly ...

Re: Synopsis - what to aim for?

Jacob mustn't succumb to double standards: on the one hand, approving short reviews, but on the other hand, pretending in this discussions there are unspoken minimum standards for what constitutes a review on CASA.

I don't think that's entirely fair. As I wrote earlier:
the single review ...

Re: Synopsis - what to aim for?

As a matter of fact, I was pretty sure that my first review attempt would drown in a large number of other submissions very soon, submissions for real text adventures, hehe... I suggest you guys write some reviews yourself, and then we have many more examples to discuss
Hehe, yeah, you're ...
