Re: Scope of the site

Again, personally I don't think it's needed, but others may disagree.

Re: How to play IF on your mobile?

Thanks for the input!
My current phone (Nokia 5130) runs Nokia OS which may or may not be a derivate of Symbian, I don't know much about it.
The problem with the phone is that it only has a normal phone keyboard, not a full QWERTY one, so that makes anything like Inform games fairly tiresome to play ...

Re: Scope of the site

Going away from the tagging aspect for a moment, another issue:
After roaming around on Plus/4 World for a while, I noticed that a heap of unofficial conversions exists for that platform. That is, a merciful individual has converted a game from another platform and made it work on his own.

It is ...

Re: Tunnelmaze, Underground Adventure et.al.

Dave, Amazon never ceases to amaze me. I'd never have thought that such books were still available. Perhaps I should see if my "C64 memory guide" is worth a few quid ;)

Duckworth published a number of books written by Peter Gerrard called "Exploring Adventures on the X" where X is a computer ...

Tunnelmaze, Underground Adventure et.al.

In the database there are a number of games listed under Duckworth .

I've found these games for a number of platforms, often with different publishers. They were all in straight BASIC, so they should be easy to port. Does anyone know what platforms these games were officially published on, and how ...

Thank God ;)

This sounds like an intriguing project - obviously a lot of work has gone into it. I'll give it a shot one of these days.

Re: Platform distinction

I'm not aiming for complete accuracy with the platforms. I'll leave that to Wikipedia and similar services. We need something that's both manageable and useful for site users.

My assumption is that platforms that are closely related (without necessarily being 100% compatible) will have the same ...

Yes, so far I've only come up with Bureaucracy and Trinity for the C128 :)

Platform distinction

I'm looking for some expert input here as I have to admit that my personal knowledge of the incredible/ridiculous (delete where appropriate) number of 8-bit machines isn't as expertlike as it could have been ;)

In order to avoid having too many platforms with too few games to them, I'd like to lump ...

Re: Scope of the site

Sam, thanks for your response! I don't want to shoot down any ideas right away, and I can see that you've given this some thought, so let's see where this is going :)

wrt omitting tag(s) because they cover a lot of games - the idea of arbitrarily leaving out the tag(s) for one type of game just ...

Re: Scope of the site

Hi Sam, and welcome to the forum - hope you'll have a nice time here!

It's always a pleasure receiving new ideas, and yours certainly has some merit. If we were to add info on the areas you suggest, I'd prefer (as you do) to have them as tags, rather than introducing an entire new field.

I think ...

Re: New site - bug reports

I don't mind, no.
Just keep in mind that the submission "mails" are deleted after their data has been entered into the system (or nixed), so unless you submit a heap of updates at the same time (or I'm way behind with the updating), any user's personal list of submissions shouldn't be very long.

Re: Conceptual question: companies

I'm definitely in favour of #2 - this would elegantly solve an issue, where I've decided to enter the same name as author AND company for a substantial no. of games.

Re: Scope of the site

Where does it end, indeed? If you look at the Adventureland site, they've had the same problem for years. There are so many hybrid genres and borderline games where it's difficult to tell what to include.
If we take a look at what's on CASA at the moment, there are definitely some titles that don't ...
