Re: Reviews - your input needed!

They are distinct and can be used separately. He thought about combining them but in my opinion it over-complicates matters. Since Frustration only has two values, it probably makes the most sense to just include this info in the main review.

Reviews - your input needed!

The new site is approaching a state where it can go live, which makes me endlessly happy.

One thing that still needs some work is the reviews section, which I've been working on with kind assistance from Alastair. So I'd very much like your input!

The current review model allows ratings in the ...

Re: Most overutilized/underutilized themes?

Actually, Infocom's Sherlock is a terrific game - well written, really evokes the atmosphere of that historical setting - and with good puzzles. Certainly worth a try.
But I'd have to agree with the Melbourne House game. It was probably just too ambitious.

If you're not afraid of graphical games ...

Re: Forum updated

Yes, there's lots happening behind the scenes :)

I've decided to open the pm system again. The number of users you can contact in this way has been limited, and you have to have four posts under your belt before you're allowed to send pm's.
Let's see how this works out :o

Re: Forum updated

Prosilver was the default style, but I decided to go for Subsilver instead in order to maintain continuity. I think I'll scrap Prosilver altogether.

Forum updated

The forum is now running the latest version of phpBB (3.0.6). Apart from having a plethora of new features, it ought to be better protected against spammers (which we've seen plenty of, lately).
Still, I'll keep off private messaging for a couple more days, just to see if I need to install any anti ...

Humour's one of those things that's really, really hard to get right for everybody at every time. Many of the adventures I found really humourous when I was a lad now seem puerile to me.

I'm now tempted to replay some of the magnetic scrolls games, as they had a large amount of quite British ...

First off, you're right - this might equally belong in the Modern section. However, I think the problem is larger when it comes to classic titles, where the text is brief and the theme might seem tacked on at times.

I agree that part of this is definitely down to personal preferences. However, I ...

Before this thread derails completely, let me put it back on track :)

Terri, do you think Killworth writes highly original games or are they more run-of-the-mill, thematically?

Most overutilized/underutilized themes?

The thread about horror and supernatural games had me thinking (a dangerous pastime!)...
in your (probably very humble) opinion, what themes have been done to death, and which would you liked to have seen more often in classic titles?

Let me start:
Severely overdone:
- Generic treasure hunts ...

Yes, p&c is the more obvious choice and I tend to enjoy those, but I'd really like some text :) TKV was really neat in that it would try to guess your input based on its vocabulary, so if you started typing EX, it would complete your input as EXAMINE.
For lack of a better alternative, perhaps there ...

How to play IF on your mobile?

Recently I got myself a fairly new Nokia - decent display (320x240) though fairly small, but no QWERTY keyboard - they tend to be fairly useless, anyway, unless you have fingers the size of a hobbit. So it's not a PDA or an iPhone or anything along those lines.

What's my best bet if I want to play ...

Yes, links can be added for individual games or all games on the entire site (1300+ at the moment). Sometimes other sites frown upon deep linking (ie. linking directly to a subpage), but copyright isn't an issue.

As for book discussion, please, by all means! There's a section of the forum called ...

The upcoming version of the site allows users to add genre tags, such as "horror" to the games in the database.
This thread has led me to believe that there might actually be use for such a feature :)

Well, thanks for sharing your story, Terri.

Anyway, all the games in this compilation have been solved, and I admire the people who will play them when the solution is readily available.
Well, the selection of available games would be fairly tiny if I only wanted to play games for which a ...
