Haunted Abbey (BBC)

I very rarely have the time to play these days, but over the past few weeks I've actually managed to make it to (what I presume is) the end game of this neat game.

The game requires a lot of back tracking and many items can be used in wrong ways, but in some ways I enjoy this. Yeah, I'm odd.

My ...

Dave, I'd assume that your privacy is down the drain in the first place, when it comes to FB. 1984, here we come :P

But, as Eriorg indicates, all suggestions are based on friends of friends. Presumably we have one or more friends in common (Doreen, perhaps?).

Of course, the other option is that ...

I'd also like to say welcome - and to applaud your mission. Sounds like a very useful tool :)

I don't see Commodore User on the list - Keith Campbell used to write the "Into the Valley" column in that one.

I'll have to investigate - there's probably a plugin for PHPBB which does something along those lines.

Hi folks,
yes, I've been away for a number of days. I was impressed by the number of posts from the spammer - but they've been removed now.

Thanks for the head-up, Dave!

Hi Terry, and welcome among like minded enthusiasts :)

I gave up on Snowball a long time ago, mostly because I couldn't be bothered to handle all those colour coded rooms. Return to Eden was a great deal more interesting, in my humble opinion.

Sadly, Keith passed away some time ago - you can read ...

I'll see what I can get hold of.
And thanks for the offer, Dave :) I guess I could send the tape to someone, but I'm somewhat hesitant, keeping in mind how many packages are lost in the mail
I'd hate to see the single copy of this game getting lost.

Hi and welcome!
Yes, I remember Zim Sala Bim rather well, though I have to say that I found it incredibly sluggish and annoying :) It's quite similar to African Safari.

No walkman or anything like that - and everybody I know seem to have ditched theirs years ago. But I will locate one.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, it's a TRS-80 game.
Now I just need to locate someone with a tape deck. They seem to have fallen out of fashion during the last few years.

I did get Fairytale from Keith, but as a real tape. I haven't got a clue as how to transfer it. But thanks for the reminder, I should probably investigate.

It certainly would be helpful. I thought BBC emulation was the largest pain until BeemEm started featuring a quickstart feature.

If you can cover the BBC and perhaps the Amstrad, I can write up brief guides for the other popular systems. I can then put it in the emulator section or whereever it fits.

If by "cheat sheet" you mean a guide to getting people started with various systems, such as the Beeb, I think it's a tremendous idea and I'm all for it.

If, on the other hand, the intention is to tell everybody how to hack the games and peek at the code, I guess I'm not too hot on the idea. I'm ...

Some good suggestions there :) I'd have to agreee that too many C64 games are too difficult (and too many are too easy). I guess they just didnt playtest enough back then. I mean.... give Cobra a brief spin and you'll be dead five times already.
Park Patrol and Boulderdash seem like nice starting ...

Ha! One C64 could probably control a spaceship to the Moon, so two C64's should at least get us to Mars ;)

Interesting that you should mention Thrust. I often have problems figuring out what games are easy enought for a small child to master. Thrust is....er..... not exactly at the top of the list ...
