Re: Mines of Saturn, early adventure for the Spectrum 16K

The instructions clear up why the game seemed to be "bugged"
Well, I still think it was bugged, even if it's possible to win. With the random numbers which aren't actually random, the first two games will always be lost: I don't think it was intended! Or if it was, it's terrible game design... and ...

Re: Mines of Saturn, early adventure for the Spectrum 16K

Terri,
not a solution but instructions for the game. You can find them via the compilation link at WoS. Or go directly to the compilation page by clicking the link below.

Re: Mines of Saturn, early adventure for the Spectrum 16K

I did get around to reading the instructions :)

If you die you are supposed to type G 1 [enter] the game will then restart. (For this to work on a Spectrum 128 you have to start in "48 BASIC" and load the game with LOAD "".)

So using the original game I found that after two deaths and restarts ...

Re: Mines of Saturn, early adventure for the Spectrum 16K

The first download on the World of Spectrum page may be bugged, thanks Eriorg, but the second "MinesOfSaturn(different).tzx.zip" appears to work.

Re. Uploading, as Eriorg has discovered, if a forum will not accept a certain extension then you can almost always zip it up and post the zip, this also ...

Weren't we going to call it "Atmosphere"?

Re: Reviews - your input needed!

Re. Cruelty and Frustration
When I first thought of what was originally called "Fairness" I was thinking more in terms of frustration rather than winnable/unwinnable, in fact I was not even aware of Andrew Plotkin's scale. I have no problems with games where you can die or get into situations where ...

Re: Reviews - your input needed!

Jacob,
you forgot to mention that a problem with "Winnable/Unwinnable" (apart from the ugly terms - does anyone have better suggestions?) is that unless you have completed an adventure it can difficult to know if a game is "always winnable."

Note that the "Frustration" scale can be expanded, I ...

Re: Forum updated

Good job, here's hoping that it keeps the spammers at bay.

By the way, there is some discrepancy between the type sizes in the two available board styles as can be seen in the following combined screen shot.

'Prosilver' is on the left, 'Subsilver2' on the right.

I've had a look at this game but like you am unable to find the necklace. Some things I have found, some more useful than others, are:

Asking the rabbit tells us something we already worked out.

Pulling (or closing) the book gives a message which is little more helpful than the rabbit's reply ...

By the way, I once read somewhere that CRL's Dracula was the first computer game ever to be censored (in England). Anyone else heard about this?
Yes, I remember this, too. Much hullabaloo was made over the fact, and concerned psychologists were certain that the ...erm.... highly realistic images ...

As a short term measure is it possible to prevent anyone who registers after 14th January 2010 (*) from sending Private Messages?

(*) This is the day after "frouvne" registered.

MannInBlackk Spam

It's possible that most if not everyone on this forum has received a private message from "MannInBlackk." This is spam, whatever you do, do not click on the link in that message.

Here are two pages that you may find interesting, the first is an interview with the author about the game, the second gives links to the official hint sheet (though I don't know if there was more than one page) and a map (that may have been included in the game's packaging).
