Concerning the speed-if games I doubt that they are a very interesting addition to this site. Contrary to other games I think most of them are never meant to be played by others but are as Jacob states just a Joke between a small group of friends.

Whether playing a certain game is a waste of time as Jacob states is a very personal opinion. Maybe playing any game is a waste of time as I can easily make out a list of more useful activities, but it certainly can be fun playing a game :) Concerning old basic games although they sometimes lack interesting puzzles (a lot of modern games also lack this in my humble opinion but that’s another topic), I think the difference is they were written to be played by others as a game rather than just being created around some inside joke.

I think it is a good idea to use only one genre for the speed-if games. The same counts in my opinion for the IF comp games. As the year already is mentioned by each game record it is not needed to make a different genre for each year because you could have just one if comp genre and when you click on it you can see which game belongs to which year already, but that’s my opinion.

About the random games displayed on the homepage I wonder if it isn’t possible to exclude a certain genre from the games displayed. I used to do the same as Sudders often I saw an interesting game and started playing it. As most of the speed-if games are not very playable I agree with him about this.

Concerning the lost titles I don’t think it is bad they turn up between the random games, because they can stimulate people to search for a copy (at least that is what I did on several occasions).

Good point, that are the modern games I was talking about in my above post. Normally they don't have a lot of puzzles. I played a few of them but they are often long conversations with a few choices . The name of this site is the Classic Adventure Solution Archive. My opinion is that they don’t really are under the scope of this site, but that’s only my opinion.

Thanks for your feedback, folks. Hannes, I think we agree to a large extent.

Regarding the IF Comp, as long as we don't have any real Competition tag, and as long as the IF Comp is (to my knowledge) the most recognized IF competition out there, I think it's a nice "shortcut" to have each year's competition entries in one place.

As for the random games - it might be possible, but again, if you're into modern games I think you would be more focused on excluding 35 year old BASIC than Speed IF. We're trying to cater to a wide audience, and I'm fairly sure that we all have different preferences :)

Concerning the If comp I never stated these games are not important or should not be included or that they should not have a genre. I only think they could be reduced to one general genre if comp because the information about the year is already included with each game . If not why not do this for each genre for instance horror 2001, horror 2003 etc. In my opinion it makes the genre list very long and it does not provide any extra information, but if you prefer to create the same genre again for each year it, s fine with me.

Like I said, it's a shortcut to a specific competition. I would never set up a genre based on individual years - horror games from 2001 wouldn't really have much else in common.

But at least the genre list is a lot shorter now :) All Speed IF, IF Art etc. tags have been lumped into one simply called Speed IF (which I thought was more recognizable than Minicomp). So we've made some progress :D
