Toot 'n' Come In -zx spectrum

#1 Post by Alex » Fri Jan 29, 2021 1:51 am

Anyone tried to play Toot 'n' Come In? It seems a bit buggy. SCORE for instance gives a lot of garbage.

I solved some puzzles, but I'm stuck on the following problems:
-How to get rid of the slime?
-How to prevent the big rock crushing down on you (west of the carved passage)?
-How to climb down the stairway to the catacombs without your lantern going out due to the wind?
-How to reach the barge? Swimming doesn’t seem to help.
-What’s the use of the hole in the stony room?

Objects found:
-some matches
-knife
-Silver ring
-some old bandages (used)
-rope (used)
-bottle of lemonade
-brass lantern (used)
-human skull
-large stone

I think I played Jim's Peneless back in the day but not Toot.

The most up-to-date version of Toot will be the one that Jim put out on the B-side of Peneless...
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/1 ... _n_Come_in

That should technically be the least bug-free version of the game.

Thanks, that one seems better! At least SCORE does work on that version.

I still could use some help though so if anyone likes to try?

This one is quite hard. Being completely stuck I made an incomplete map. Scoring points is achieved by visiting certain locations on the map. I managed to get 92%. I solved some more puzzles but I have still a lot of questions to answer before this game will be completed. There are only a few objects and you can carry them all at once. I will try a bit more, but If I remain stuck I’ll upload some hints and the incomplete and maybe someone else will solve it someday.

Here is an incomplete version of the map as far as I managed to make it. I've no idea how to reach the locations on the left side of the map that is where you can find the stairs to the control room. I did find the exit location and did manage to solve the end puzzle (passing the stone guardian and leaving the pyramid), but I don't know how to get from the balcony to the location with the gremlins. There are about 14 puzzles which I still have to solve before I can complete the game. The score bij visiting all the locations on the map is 99 points (3 points for visiting each location which I've marked with the darkroom symbol). I'll try a bit more to solve some of them , but I don't think I will solve all so I'll upload hints on the puzzles I did solve along with a list of puzzles I could not manage to solve.

Today I advanced a lot. I only have to solve 6 more problems in order to complete the game. However I have no idea how to solve them so if anyone likes to try this game I can give help with solving the other puzlles if needed.

Last puzzels to solve:
-How to prevent your lantern from extinguishing when you enter the catacombs?
-How to reach the other side of the water where a barge lies? If you try to swim twice something grabs you and pulls you under.
-How to use the levers in the tomb control room to open all doors?
-How to retreive the scroll without getting killed by the keeper?
-Where to get another rope after the first one is burned or can I prevent it from burning? Might I get some bandages from the corpses found in the hall of the dead?
-How to prevent being killed by the gremlins?

Objects found:
bottle of lemonade (used)
brass lantern (used)
bronze idol (used)
empty bottle
eye of ra (used)
human skull
knife (used)
large stone
rope (used)
rusty axe (used)
silver ring (used)
small key (used)
small scarab (used)
some diamonds
some matches (used)
some old bandages (used)
some wood (used)
the pharaohs scroll (used)
torch

I've uploaded some hints in the form of a partial walkthrough on how to solve the other puzzles. Hopefully someone can solve the remaining puzzles and we can write a complete solution.
