I've been adding some game data from Aran (iamaran), which he has gathered from Gamebase 64. Well, as it turns out GB64 has some information which is in need of an update.
So can anyone help me out here:
Is "The Guild Adventure Software" the same company as "The Guild"? I'd say it's not, given the time frame of the companies' releases and use of systems (BASIC vs. The Quill, mainly).
And were some of "The Guild"'s games released by The Adventure Workshop instead?
In both cases, the GB64 crew would love to see some evidence (product catalogues or similar).
Can any of you knowledgeable people help?

Re: About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop
I think they are one and the same company. I searched Zapp64 but could only find the address of the Guild which was:
The Guild
Tony Collins
760 Tyburn Road
Erdington
Birmingham
B24 9NX
They released some compilations on tape and disk with the company name of The Guild PD. I know there was some add about this compilation. I searched zzapp magazine but didn't find it until know. (will keep searching ) I once had the original tapes (that is until last year when I sold my collection of original C64 tapes) and these contained both games from the Guild and the Guild adventure software. Fortunately, the guild software was bought by Jason 'Kenz' Mackenzie the founder of Binary Zone PD. He released a cd-rom with all the binary zone-pd disks but more interesting as a bonus he included the guild pd disks he found between the stuff he bought from the Guild. This cd is still available from:
http://www.binaryzone.org/retrostore/in ... cts_id=218
Jason writes on the disk:

This section was a last minute addition to this CD-ROM. I quite
literally found all these disks in my WARDROBE!! When I took over
"The Guild Adventure Software" a few years ago I was sent all the
commercial adventures along with 20 disks of PD software.
I've ported all the PD adventure gamess (NOT the commercial games
of course!) and I've also included two Binary Zone PD Adventure
Compilations - "The Best of the Guild" as an extra bonus. (These
feature some of the best games I found while going through the
Guild PD collection).

Re: About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop
Excellent advice, Alex! I've written to Jason already. And it would seem that we have quite some way to go when it comes to TGAS titles in our database

Re: About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop
Well, after much mailing to and fro, the case is closed (sort of). The Guild and TG Adventure Software are indeed one and the same company, and the games listed over on Gamebase64 as TGAS are actually just plain, normal PD titles which The Guild decided to release on a number of discs.
In all these instances, I'd say that it would be more correct to set the Company as either "public domain" or the name(s) of the author(s). The fact that The Guild gathered these games years after they were initially released doesn't change the fact that they weren't originally released by The Guild.
Does that make sense?

Opinions?
THe only reason I'm pursuing this is that in all likelihood there will be similar cases down the road.

Re: About The Guild, The Guild Adv. Software & Adv. Workshop...
Just spotted this @Gunness after noticing that we have two entries for The Guild as a publisher.
The Guild and The Guild Adventure Software publisher entries need to be combined into a single entry.
Yes, they are both the same. The problem is, that a lot of the C64 games they "published" were public domain or produced and sold by a different company earlier, so... although it looks like they were around and publishing games in the 1980s... they actually weren't... they're at least a secondary publisher for pre-90s games. However, they're the only currently known publisher for a lot of those titles.
