The four wands BBC

#1 Post by Alex » Fri Aug 03, 2012 11:33 pm

I've been playing this game for a while now on the BBC. It exists of three parts. I solved the first and third part and made a map and walkthrough for them, but I'm stuck on the second part. Someone wants to give it a try?

The password to part 2 is "evad erog" (The name of the author Dave Gore backwards)

Untill now I found the following objects:

blind beggar
blue slime
body of the village elder
boulder in a hole
bridge
cat
crystal glass
ducks
empty box
entrance to a tunnel
glas lantern
glass jar
gold pendant
hermit
knife
lamp
large boulder
large dog
large door
lasso
long rope
long tethering pole
long thin pipe
oar
old lady
one dracus coin
pair of gloves
pile of straw
rope hanging from tree
silver cross
silver goblet
silver ring
small capsule
spade
woman behind counter

I've got the following questions:
-How to enter the water to the east of the gallows?
-How to go to the island in the swamp?
-Who should I give the coin the beggar, the woman in the shop or the old lady?
-Should something be done with the hermit before he leaves?
-Objects I didn't use untill now are:

blind beggar
crystal glass
ducks
empty box
hermit
lamp
long tethering pole
long thin pipe
oar
old lady
one dracus coin
silver cross
silver goblet
silver ring
woman behind counter

I just solved this question. But unfortunately I only found a closed box on the island and I don't know where to find the key.

I'll give it a go tomorrow. How are parts 1 & 3?

Good to hear you want to give it a try. I hope you'll have more luck in finding an answer to any of the above questions.

Part one was fairly simple to solve. Although it did have some interesting puzzles like retreiving the knife. Part 3 was more complex with one huge complex puzzle to escape from the cave. It also took me some while before I realized I had to use the command BAIT ROD before being able to fish.

Some general hints: The command WAIT is important. SEARCH and EXAMINE are two different commands and "LOOK direction" also can help. Certain actions can only be done after you have done something else first. For instance when you examine something without having done something else you won't find anything, but after you've completed te required action you will find something or are able to complete a certain action.

One more thing you have to know when you start playing from part 2, in the first location it states there is a cove on the other side of the river, don't bother with it because that's the cove you came from.

Okay, I've started part two now. Seems fairly good so far :)
A brief question: I've tried in every possible way (?) to get across the crevice east of the tunnel. I thought I might use the pole or the oar to vault across. Did you get across the crevice?

Yes, you have to use an object to form a bridge.

I had a hunch that might be the case, just hadn't tried USE. Thanks :)
Also, is there any point to the two desert locations?

Ok, I'm officially stuck at this point. I think I've SEARCHed and EXAMINEd every possible object and WAITed till I was blue in the face ;)
- I have found every object on your list except the cat, which I presume is for getting rid of the dog? I've also tried catching the dog with the lasso or tethering him with the pole, but no luck so far.
- I keep getting killed by the snake bite, even after trying to SUCK and CUT BITE/WOUND.
- I have a hunch that the beggar is the right one to use the money on. It seems like "the right thing to do", and the items for sale seem like useless trinkets that will lure away your money.
- Is there any way to enter the mine without getting killed?
- What triggers the appearance of the village elder at the gallows? He's not there from the start, so I only discovered him by accident. If it's a matter of timing, there could be lots of other "hidden" items.

Man, I'm just rusty at playing adventure games :P

Start breathing again  here you've some hints to get you a bit further (and I hope a bit further than I got :) ).
Gunness wrote:- I have found every object on your list except the cat, which I presume is for getting rid of the dog?
The cat is up the tree near the swamp. you need the rope to go up there. You're right about the dog.
Gunness wrote:- I keep getting killed by the snake bite, even after trying to SUCK and CUT BITE/WOUND.
Inside the pendant you find something which helps against the venom.
Gunness wrote:- I have a hunch that the beggar is the right one to use the money on. It seems like "the right thing to do", and the items for sale seem like useless trinkets that will lure away your money.
I had the same meaning, but is seems nothing happens when you give him the coin. The old lady only stays a while and then she is gone. I don't know if she has some use.
Gunness wrote:- Is there any way to enter the mine without getting killed?
I didn't find it. But I don't think that it is needed to do anything else there. At the gallows however when you enter LOOK EAST you can see some soldiers camping at the pool. Somehow we have to get rid of them, because to proceed it is neccesary to enter the pool (I admit I looked at the programm code because I am completely stuck  ).

I think it is after you've found the knife.

Once again I need a nudge:

Argh, that tree and that rope...
SWING ROPE
USE ROPE
TIE ROPE TO TREE/BRANCH
THROW ROPE
THROW ROPE AT TREE/BRANCH
all of the above, with LASSO instead of ROPE

LOOK UP
etc etc.

Nothing works, and as nothing in the location can be searched or examed, I don't thing the game is being very helpful :(
How can I go up there??

I agree the commands you've to enter sometimes are rather difficult to do something simple in this game. I just allmost solved his other adventure The inca treasure (the ony thing I failed to do is to find one of the treaseruse the jeweled box) and it has the same complex puzzles.

In this case you have to enter:
MAKE LASSO, LASSO BRANCH, CLIMB ROPE

I checked it again. You can find the body after you've opened the entrance to the tunnel by removing the boulder. It appears there are some actions which trigger other events which aren't very obvious.

Did you make it to the island in the swamp and did you find a key to open the box?
