Galaxy Trek Adventure #2 by Howard Batie

#1 Post by jgerrie » Thu Apr 21, 2016 3:22 am

I can find Galaxy Trek Adventure #1 listed in the database, but not #2.. They were both programmed by Howard Batie. I have been working on converting a scan of Adventure #2 from Hot Coco Magazine. I am wondering if anyone has possibly solved this, or is aware of an existing copy out there that's already in some computer readable format. I have got the source to a reasonable level that it seems to run okay on my MC-10 and Coco, but its a complicated adventure, and I'm not really very good at solving them. So I am also wondering if there are any volunteers out there who would like to try to solve it (and bug test)...

Okay. I've made a DSK image with a TRS-80 Version of Batie's second Star Trek Adventure (for anyone who is interested) and posted it in the files section of the TRS-80 Yahoo group:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/TRS ... es/G-Soft/

I also have TRS80 Coco version (on the JGAMES12.DSK):

Dragon version (GALTREK.CAS):

Any bug reports would be much welcome...

The original was called 'Galaxy Adventure #1', not 'Galaxy Trek Adventure #1'. The article was titled 'Galaxy Trek Adventure'. This was published in HOT CoCo, vol. 1, no. 3, August 1983, pp. 68–70, 72. A port to the TRS-80 was published by the Club 100 Library.

As I think you have found, there was no 'Galaxy Adventure #2'. This was called 'Star Trek Adventure #2'. The article was titled 'Galaxy Trek Adventure 2'. This was published in HOT CoCo, vol. 1, no. 4, September 1983, pp. 72–73, 76–80. I believe your port to the TRS-80 is new. Thanks for that.

Yes some weird stuff going on with the titles between the articles and the actual programs. Don't know what's up with that. Batie a bit batty? He writes nice code, and the game seems like it might be interesting, but with no game save feature built in, I thought it would be nice to port to the TRS-80 Model 1/3, which has emulators with save and restore memory states. But I haven't shelled out the $$ for that (it's not included with the free version of the emulator I have). I'm hoping someone suitably kitted out might give it go...

I'm poking away at it...

Jim,
MAME and MESSUI (MAME with a UI, the old name has been retained even though MESS and MAME were combined several versions ago) have TRS-80 emulation that allows the saving and restoring of memory states.

Thanks Alastair,

I had real trouble in the past with MESS under Linux, but I should try it again.

Until then, it's fail and retrace all my steps...
