Does anyone fancy testing The Vespozian Affair (BBC)

From the Computer & Video Games Year Book 1984.I typed it in and that process has drained me of any desire to play it... I would like to correct any typos though.

Sure, I'll be happy to give it a go. Not sure if I'll have the patience to complete it, tho' :)

Great, thanks.

I learnt that it's quicker to just get on and type in rather than correct the OCR from poor scans...

Does anyone know if the Dragon version exists anywhere?

I typed in the Atari 8-bit version and I've also got the BBC and Spectrum versions (but need to check the typing), so if the Dragon version doesn't show up anywhere, you could possibly start with one of these. I haven't checked to see which one is closest to the Dragon listing.

Any chance you could shoot me any of these versions as text files? I have the scan, but some of the edges are missing in a few places. Any additional info, text strings, etc. would be really helpful.

Don't worry. I managed to detokenize a Speccy version. I think it will convert easily to TRS-80 MC-10.

Been working on Vesporian from a Spectrum version I detokenized. There seems to be something deeply wrong with it. I can't "GET" anything. It would be helpful if there was a walkthrough, but there doesn't seem to be one. Is this because there are no working versions? The same problem with "GET" seems to affect an online BBC version. Am I missing something?

Oops. Not a problem with "GET" as such. I had introduced a subroutine that used the same variable as the Verb list. Fixed that. Then realized it only take "TAKE". Still fiddling. Been assassinated once for treason. Oh well...

Been assassinated once for treason.
In this context, "treason" means porting from Spectrum to MC10.

I believe "non-kosher" would probably more accurately capture what's happening... :D

Iamaran,

Here's a walkthrough that might help in your debugging.

Walkthrough for MC-10 Version of Vespozian Affair (heavily debugged).

You are continuously being dogged by the Bloodline Empire spy "Grakta." The following list of actions are the ones needed to win, but they can't include the random occasions when Grakta will appear in a room. When he is present you must avoid taking items, opening doors or going through bulkheads, otherwise Grakta will take you out with extreme prejudice. But you can "LOOK AROUND," which will produce clues. You can also do a few other mundane actions like "LOOK SCREEN" in the navigation room. Hit enter or "LOOK AROUND" as much as necessary until Grakta goes away, and then continue with the list of actions. INVENTORY is also okay when he is around.
LOOK and EXAMINE are the same command. You can use them on some specific items for additional details. The disks provide the information you need to figure out the story, but retrieving them and "INSERTing" them in the navigation room to view their contents is not included in this walkthrough. Avoid viewing them when Grakta is present. LOOKING at Beszel in the Captain's Cabin will have him wink at you and look at Grakta. He's clearly on your side, but can't speak out loud.
Your bunk in the crew quarter can be used to store items safely from Grakta when you don't want to carry them. Just drop them, and they will be slipped under your pillow. LIFTing your pillow will reveal them again. Don't leave the suits anywhere but under your pillow or in the suit room, otherwise they will be discovered and removed from the game. You can wear the asbestos suit in the core, just outside the core or in the suit room. Otherwise make sure to carry it or put it under your pillow. The space suit should normally be carried and only worn in the shuttle bay, shuttle and (obviously) when you venture outside the ship.

Discuss some of the problems I found with the game here, including the online BBC micro version:
