Just wanted to point you all at the fabulous new(-ish) site http://ifdb.tads.org
It has been around for almost two years, and it has tons of useful information. It's an excellent place to post reviews of games, as well as recommendation lists. You can also create and read polls, which work much like collective recommendation lists.
The site has the ambition to gather information about all text adventures / interactive fiction games ever released, but the bulk of the games this far are games that are on if-archive. Still, it has more than 3000 games already, and pretty much all new games are added as they become available.
I know there are many people on these forums who have a strong interest in older games. Maybe we could all add a bunch of older games to the database. Adding a game is easy, but note that you're not allowed to provide download links to games unless you are the copyright holder, or the copyright holder has explicitly allowed the game to be spread in this way.
Regards,
Fredrik
