New user registration is not acknowledged

I have someone complaining that:
I registered one months ago but it doesn't send the activation email and the admins don't reply when you contact them.
Is this normal? I know that the database is broken, game updates are on hold and email notifications don't work. Is this related? What do I tell the poor soul that's trying to register?

I got a little more info. He says that when he tries to log on, he gets a message saying "This account has not been activated", so it sounds like it needs an administrator to activate it. Remember that email notifications are not working, so he would not have received any email notifications.

I tried contacting the admins myself, selected the check box to send me a copy of the email and I got...nothing...nada...zip...zilch.

This issue hasnt been fixed yet. I have another user with a gmail address that has tried to register, but hasn't heard anything. I'll send a PM with details, but surely this needs to be fixed. How many potential users haven't been registered?

Garry, I've activated the user.

We are working on the problem. It seems to be down to configuring the mailserver to Gmail's liking, so it's a question of finding out what Gmail wants.

It seems there's another problem with the backend; my account works fine on the forums but the main site gives me an authentication error.

This is a puzzle to me, I've checked various settings and cannot see anything that would cause a problem. Please try again, perhaps using https if you used http before or vice-versa.

You mean it literally says "Authentication failed (wrong username or password)!"?

Yes, that's the message. I've checked and I get the same error message with the http version of the site, and on different browsers and devices.

rkowalski, out of interest did you ever try logging in to the main site before I activated your account?
