Since no one is available to help with the other games I am stuck in, let's try this one. This is a BBC game, found at Stairway to Hell.

I was going nicely along, but now am stuck. I do not know what to do at the well or at the burning house. I can't seem to light the hay. Anyway who wants to play along?

While it is obvious where most things are needed, this is not. To get past the dog, hit him with an object that in other games, you would feed to him.

You need a shovel to get past the snow.

The rope appears to be useable in more than one place.

I played partway through this on the C64. Is the BBC version buggy? The code doesn't seem to use markers, so things keep reverting to their initial state: opened doors close again, the man bleed once more etc. etc. Very annoying.

Anyway, regarding the house: using the rope, you should be able to position yourself above the cart. Then... fire away!

However, the rope seems to get stuck inside the house. Where can I use it a second time?

Yes, I did that and I am in the cart. But how to light the hay? I have the torch. Before I was able to LIGHT EXPLOSIVE, but LIGHT TORCH doesn't work.

I haven't played this game, but the BBC/Electron solution (based on CASA's C64 solution) appears here

Thanks Alastair.

We'll see it works on the BBC version.

Well, it works.

Somehow my torch wasn't lit, even though I could light the gunpowder. However, the trap door in the well - don't think I would have got that part.

Thanks

No, like I wrote earlier, I think the BBC version is bugged - hence you don't need the torch to blow up the gunpowder, and the wall magically rebuilds itself all the time :P

But as for the trapdoor - there doesn't seem to be any mention of this in the text?? Weird
