Greedy Gulch

#1 Post by Amby »

I've made it to the mine but I have a nagging feeling that I have missed too much in town - the places where I suspect I could have done something before crossing the ravine, but didn't, are: the boarding house, the barber shop, and the stockyard.

Also, is there an item that helps with inventory management (a rucksack, a pack mule etc)? This game has pretty tight inventory limits otherwise which leads me to my other fear - that I didn't bring the right 6 items with me to the mine, or that I should have been able to bring more with. <sigh>.

Wow. Let me tell you how far I have gotten.
Got the plank and the lamp. Got the axe.
Sharpened the axe.
Got the tin and filled the lamp.
Got the bottle from the saloon.
Read the register.
Got the hat.
Used the axe in the sheriff's office. Got the gun.
Opened and climbed down window.
Got Zeek map.

It's been a while so I don't know exactly where I am stuck.

Actually I thought this game was another one, more interesting. Sorry. We'll finish this and go on to the other one.

No I have not found anything to help with "inventory management".

Also have no idea what to do at the boarding house, barbershop or stockyard.

Don't you need money at the barbershop. Maybe something needs to be mined first? To get money?

I should have played this first again before suggesting this.

plank

What verb did you use to get the plank across the ravine?

Is it any good at the stockyard?

I don't know what else the boarding house is good for except to see the view.

I suppose one should fill the bottle first. But I see to recall having problems with the verb.

Don't bother using the plank for the ravine, it's narrow enough to cross on your own. Never tried it in the stockyard, I think it's needed in some form the mine although I haven't come up with the correct verb yet.

Yes, you will need a full bottle of water before heading into the desert. Note: you can't fill it while holding it.

some things

I found that you could fill the bottle, if you USE PUMP three times.

Got across the ravine with no plank.

Did you find the poles? You need to LIFT FLOOR at the barber's. But then you need a light, and I don't know how to extinguish the lamp. However you need a light at the mine, and the lamp is empty. So maybe just use the match at the barber's? Or use the match at the mine?

Aargh.

Go to barbers and light the lamp (before adding the oil), it will last long enough to get the poles and then burn itself out. Then refill it for use in the mine.

Or, we can just cheat and get the poles in the dark

Rats! I manged to get in the mine without hitting my head, shot the snake, but now---my poles are too long! Grrrr.

finished, but...

Yes, after the lamp goes out, it mysteriously refills itself?? So it's useful in the mine.

Sharpen the axe again before you cross the desert.

The plank seems to be a red herring.

I found I had to go back to get items. You need the sharpened axe and the long poles at the mine, as well as the lamp, matches, gun, hat.

So, from the plateau, FILL BOTTLE, and go N, N, E, E, S, W and you are back at the ravine. Mapping helped to find this shortcut.

When you find the nugget, there is a suggestion to go west into "Adventurer's Delight". I spent hours there. I found a room with a "D" on the wall, but have no idea what it means. Maybe D for dead end? And there all you need to do is type LOOK and you move into another room. You cannot map it as the game does not allow you to drop anything in this red herring of a maze.

When you type score in the mine (where you find a nugget) you get 930 points. After you make your way back out, and you are at the square, your score is only 830 points!! Go figure.

Back at the square go W, W, and you are done. Most unsatisfactory. Hope you enjoyed it more than I did. The slow graphics in the desert didn't help my disposition any. :x :?

Thanks for the warning about the Adventures Delight. I probably would have spent days trying to solve it.

I agree, a most unsatisfying ending, it didn't even give me my final score.

So, Terri=solution & Amby=map?

I forgot

I forgot to mention that in the barbershop you need to LIFT FLOOR to get the poles, but you probably did that, since you mentioned the poles were too long.

Did you know that you didn't really need to have the axe with you to USE AXE to chop the poles?

Buggy game.

Yup, I'll do the solution and you can do the map.
