Elysian Fields

After Amby gave the URL for Apple games, I checked it out.
I found Elysian Fields there. The title sounded interesting. It is touted to be an "educational" game and it you play around enough you can get comments from the author.
I like Greek Myths, so I though I'd play it. I found some beeswax (I think I know where to use that), but before I go adventuring on the seas, I should explore some more.
Any takers on this? Obviously my knowledge is more than limited.

Hey cool. I completely overlooked this one before. I'll give it a go. Just hoping the rest of the game isn't as loud as the intro was!

Interesting, is it in the apple II tosec?

Yes you can find the game following the link Amny gave. Go up a directory, and keep looking around. About comments from the author, it is not part of the game; I found it my searching Elysian Fields + apple game on some site or another. No hints though.

I've been wandering the countryside, mapped about 50 or so locations and seen a few items. What I have not found, however, is a way to move the boulder blocking the cave. I'm assuming I need something to pry it with but so far, no luck. Has anyone come across something that might work?

Here are two pages that you may find interesting, the first is an interview with the author about the game, the second gives links to the official hint sheet (though I don't know if there was more than one page) and a map (that may have been included in the game's packaging).

Thanks, Alastair,
I had found and read the interview, but completely missed the sidebar about the map and hints.
Haven't yet explored as many locations as you have, Amby, only about 30.

Cool find Alastair - thanks!
Looks like my map is missing locations 67 & 68 only. Glad to know I'm on the right track there.
Still looking for a way to move the boulder - and the best way to deal with the Amazons.

I know I saw or found a mirror somewhere when I was mapping. Does anyone know where it is?

Still cannot find the mirror, but I have made progress. I have gotten the girdle which allowed me access to the bow and arrow (though I don't know yet when to use them).
I have made it into the underworld, but since you, Amby only had two locations missing, you probably have been there already.
My feeling is that I need to deal with the gorgon before I go into the underworld.
I haven't yet managed to deal with the turtle, nor move the rock. It would, in a way, make sense that going into the underworld is the last thing to do.
So, I need to find the mirror first to get the trident which (I hope) moves the boulder.
So Amby, you must have done that.
There is still the problem of getting the diamond necklace, the carrot for the rabbit, and all the ensuing things from that.
Haven't yet determined of what use is the shield. There appears to be a location (where "reflection" is spelled incorrectly) two moves north of Poseidon but the harpy is always there.
Also, in the game I am playing there are two locations in which the description is undecipherable. Is that happening with you as well?
I'm also not sure whether wearing the sandals does anything else than move you quickly to another location.
This was an educational game for kids?
So, is it time to share some hints???

I will swap you info on the mirror for how you got the girdle <please> ..
Up up and away in the dense forest for not only the mirror but also a ride to Mt Olympus..
There is something fishy about the turtle
Ahhh, using the Trident to move the boulder - this I had not tried.... so far my febile attempts have not worked.... push boulder/move boulder/prise boulder/lever boulder (all while having the trident)
Where are the undecipherable locations? I haven't seen them so now I'm wondering what I have missed.

To get the girdle, be wearing the skin. That's all, would you believe?
Re the turtle: I did see a fish somewhere. Gotta remember where, though.
"Up, up and away" - that's at the reflection scene with the typo? Thanks.
So the trident doesn't work? Too bad. Maybe the sword? Though I think I tried that.
The "bad" location is east of the rabbit.
Also, the map shows some areas north of the vineyard. I haven't managed to get there yet.
OK we keep going.

Heading up in the dense forest should not only get you the mirror, but might also get you a way to the area north of the vineyard (although that object seems to move around a bit).
East of rabbit I get shadowy forest and then a barren field east of that.
Thanks for the info on getting the girdle!
Any luck with the Hydra? I tried trident, rock and arrow to no avail. Keep getting swallowed.

Still haven't managed to figure out where to use the trident. You can't use it to catch the fish or kill the turtle.
I did some checking and found that Poseidon used the trident to create water sources. So I tried hitting the earth at various locations hoping that would create water and wash the boulder away. Desperate, eh? None of this worked.
So what to do to get rid of the turtle? The hints say to feed it? With what? The herbs don't work?
And how to get rid of the harpies? Presuming the rabbit will work here, first one needs to get the carrot. And before that the necklace in order to get the carrot.
On the plus side, I have managed to dispatch the hydra, the chimaera, the bull, and the birds.
Any idea what the wand and the hat are good for?

Apparently turtles like to eat their fellow water dwellers.
And Harpies are afraid of the same thing that has driven more than one woman to scream and jump up on a chair.
Interesting information about the trident - makes me think of the barren field - must check this out.
I'm still struggling with both the bull and hydra.
Haven't seen anything that called for a hat or a wand.
