Thanks, so I'll just walk around some more.

My hypothesis (about the other game) was incorrect. Since I later found a solution, it seems it had something to do with timing.

Yes, this game was easier, except for the knife part. Sometimes it's hard to play a simple game, with limited verbs, when one is used to finding a complex one.

So, Alastair - the solution was where?

Terri,
not a solution but instructions for the game. You can find them via the compilation link at WoS. Or go directly to the compilation page by clicking the link below.

Thanks Alastair,

It really would help if I read ALL there is to read about a game. Duh.

Same here. I was not aware that those instructions were there. The instructions clear up why the game seemed to be "bugged" ("When disaster strikes, GO TO 1 will start the game again. Do not use RUN, as this will clear the variables.")

Well, I still think it was bugged, even if it's possible to win. With the random numbers which aren't actually random, the first two games will always be lost: I don't think it was intended! Or if it was, it's terrible game design... and why would they have "fixed" it in the other version?

Sometimes I feel like I missed out on a great game, and sometimes.... well, let's just say that the last few posts had me convinced that I don't particularly need to try MoS ;)

I would go with poor programming, and once the programmer improved he patched the worst parts of the original code.

You folks are a riot.

Regardless of programming errors or not, these two games are not very challenging. However, it was very early on when it was written - the bright lights of good gaming - had yet to emerge.

All this goes to show that, forums like this, for those of us who like playing such games, are needed. Someone will always bring a new perspective, especially technical. Most have talents one doesn't have. I personally, need to be reminded that I need to be more observant, less impulsive, read everything (Alastair continues to do a regular, good job, reminding me of that :).

Now, if we could manage this with a more truly challenging game - it would be great. I'm sure will come up. My stack of unfinished games is over two inches high!
