Inca - Apple II & PC

Has anyone around here played this rare text adventure from Hayden Software?:
http://yois.if-legends.org/vault.php?id=587
I am less than 100 points (222 points out of 320) away from finishing it, but I am quite stuck now. There's a few things that I can't seem to figure out:
1- I have not been able to recuperate the Golden Sun brooch, which Cupay and Amaru take away from you at the start of the game. This appears to be an important item in the game.
2- One of the condors that passes by flying has "something tightly in its claws", but everything I have tried to either kill it, capture it, or somehow make it release the thing it has in its claws has been useless so far
3- There appear to be several tall mountains/rocks/cliffs/outcrops around, but none of them seem to be climbable. One of them even has a specific direction assigned to it (southwest of the southern end of the Incan highway), but when you try to go there it tells you that you can't (a bug, a red-herring or is this done on purpose to make it difficult to access the place? I can't tell so far.)
The game was released in two versions: Apple II and PC. The Apple II copies found on the Internet seem to be corrupted (you can't access the cave.) The PC version used to be found on the Internet before, but for some reason now it has become pretty hard to locate it, so for the benefit of anyone who wants to take a crack at it (and help me get "unstuck" in the process), I upload a bootable disk image of the game. You can easily run it with DOSBox.

I had tried to play this game before, but could not get out of the boat. How did you do that? I was playing the Apple game, so I will try it on the PC.

I am trying to play this game via DOSBOX, but am having trouble getting started.
Can you walk me through this?
I think I managed to change the Z prompt to a C prompt, but C did not show up on the screen.

Jump into water (be sure to get the knapsack and canteen before you do; also do it while there are no sharks around)
I will help you on the DOSBox thing a bit later, as right now I am not using my PC. It's a bootable image, so you need to tell DOSBox to boot it from the start.

OK, the following instructions on how to run the game are for DOSBox with D-Fend Reloaded (they might work for whatever version you have as well), downloadable here:
http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/Download.html
1- Put the Inca disk image in the Virtual HD directory.
2- Click on DOSBoxDOS and then Edit.
3- Now go to Starting (bottom of the list on your left hand)
4- Select where it says "Start floppy image", and then go to the "Choose file" icon
5- Select the Inca disk image
6- Click OK
When you Run DOSBoxDOS now it will boot the game. You might want to slow down the emulation speed, by the way, otherwise some messages in the game will appear and disappear too fast. This can be done by tinkering with the CPU menu of DOSBoxDOS.

I don't know if this is as it was meant to be done, but Cupay and Amaru only take things from you when you have them in your posession, during the game as well as at the beginning of the game. During what appears to be an introduction you can allready enter commands. Therefore before they hit you on your head type DROP BROOCH and when you get the text they have hit you, BEFORE you hit enter and get the text you're inside the boat, type GET BROOCH and you have the brooch in your possesion. Whenever you meet them later in the game just DROP ALL before they hit you unconsious to prevent they steal from you.

How fiendishly clever of the programmer! I had not noticed that you could actually do such a thing during the opening sequence. Thanks for pointing it out.

The image is a bootable floppy so there is no need to mount anything, instead type (including the quotes if the path includes spaces):
BOOT "x:\complete path to image\INCA.IMG"
where "x:\complete path to image" are the partition and path to wherever you put the image.
As Juan mentioned, it is likely that you will need to slow DOSbox down so keep pressing CTRL+F11 until the speed is in the low hundreds.

I have finally solved these two problems (which were really one problem, actually.) Now I have all the gems. But now I am also stuck at how to handle them in the cave.

I might have spoken too soon. I just noticed that the condor that holds something in its claws still pops up every now and then, so it might be something else than the gem/jewel you find at the condor's nest (or maybe it's just a bug?)

OK, I have finished the game. However, I could not achieve a perfect score. 18 points are missing (302 out of 320 points.) Maybe it's that thing in the condor's claws that I can't figure out how to get. Whatever it is, though, it is not necessary to finish the game.
A walkthrough will be written. Alex, I will include you because you supplied a solution to an important obstacle (how to prevent Cupay and Amaru from taking the brooch from you.)
I will also include anyone who can figure out what any of the missing points are.

Is this the 'official' way to keep the brooch, or did the programmer not realise that you could drop the brooch in the prologue? I suspect that it is the latter as restoring the game from the beginning (ALT+0) puts you in the lifeboat without the brooch.
Who knows? It could be that recovering the brooch gives you the missing 18 points.

Thanks for your help with DOSBox, Alastair. I've printed everyone's instructions out, and I'm sure a time will come when they will be needed. I'm still struggling with Generalissimo. So once the solution is posted I will (maybe) try it out.

That's a good obsevation. Maybe it's what the condor has in its claws.
I also could not find any use for the locker (other than for storing items inside, which is hardly necessary) and the bucket (other than filling it with water, but I couldn't find any use for the bucket of water either.)
