OK - I deal with the wizard. But then the wraith is there. Not with the slug. How does one deal with it?

Does it matter which order one does those things in?

The wraith can be killed the same way as the slug. Just type the magic word (ZIFRO)

Somehow the galley should sail of to the harbour of an island "as though manned by an invisible crew" but this is the only problem I couldn't solve until now.

There aren't any more locations you can visit or objects to be found until you leave with the galley but I can't find the command to get it moving. The only thing I know is you need the medal to enter the hold because without it you are killed.

I went to the place where the galley should take you using a hex editor on my save game and solved the game from there on. There are many ways you can get killed and locations you don’t need to go to but when you finally know the right path it's not that big.

Played the game agian but this time I was killed inside the hold alltough I was wearing the medal and had the lamp burning. Strange..

terri wrote:So, which order do you do things?
I suppose the order until inside the galley could be the partial walkthrough below. It covers all the things we found out thus far. I also wrote a walkthrough for the rest of the game (from the harbour where the galley will leave you somehow) but I''ll keep that behind because I don't want to spoil the rest of the game before you tried.

E, GET PARCHMENT (you make out the letters ZI), W, N, LOOK (until knight appears), STAND, GET SWORD, UP, E, INSIDE (window), GET LAMP, RUB LAMP (the lamp begins to glow brightly), OUT (window), N, HIDE (you jump on the back of the waggon and enter the castle), RIGHT, ENTER (door) , GET FLUTE, KILL WITCH (with sword), GET RING, GET MEDAL, E, RIGHT, E, GET GOLD, N, OUT, DOWN, DOWN, DROP MEDAL, WEST (the bird talks to you because you have the ring and takes you to a cottage), E, DROP RING, S, GET BOTTLE, GET BEAN, N, PLANT BEAN, EMPTY BOTTLE, DROP BOTTLE, UP, N, GIVE GOLD (the dwarf gives you the gold), S, E, N, CROSS (stepping stones), W, GET URN, E, CROSS (stepping stones), S, W, DOWN, PLAY FLUTE (the bird is releasesed from the spell and the wizard vanishes), GET RING, ENTER BUCKET, N, DOWN, PUSH BOULDER, DOWN, E, INSERT GEM, W, W, GET PARCHMENT (you make out the letters FRO), N, E, DOWN, ZIFRO (a black cloud appears and vapourizes the slug), E, E, N, W, GET MEDAL, S, ENTER (galley), DOWN

Somehow the galley should move and below text should appear:

The boat sails off east as though manned by an invisible crew. It soon arrives at an island, stopping long enough for you to disembark

Orcs and wraiths appear randomly. To kill the orc you've to have the axe or the sword and type KILL ORC but it is posible to be killed. To kill the wraith type ZIFRO.

At last I found how to move the galley and solved the game :D . I''ll write a walkthrough. You need the medal to get it moving.

Thanks for continuing to play the game, Alex. I thought you were going to quit.

I too noticed there are times when you cannot kill the Orc.

I have been wearing the medal and the ring. Is it necessary to drop them and then pick them up again?

I played again using your walkthrough. But one does not come across the wraith then. Is this intentional? Or did you not run into it?

Another random element is that the wraith return. Sometimes ZIFRO works the second time. At another time you have to KILL in between two castings of the spell.

This is more than just random - I can't seem to shake the wraith.

I did run into the wraith when I played the game sometimes but the wraith and a few more characters (which are not random) later on in the game are not needed to solve the game. There are quite a few locations in this game which are only traps where it is possible to get killed but aren't needed to visit to solve the game. (the hold of the galley being one of them and the last command down in my walkthrough above should be omitted).
terri wrote:I have been wearing the medal and the ring. Is it necessary to drop them and then pick them up again?
No, it isn't. It doesn't matter if you wear them or just hold them in your possession. The only difference is you can take more objects if you wear them. In stead of dropping the medal like I do in my walkthrough you can also wear it but the result is the same.

I figured out how to get the galley moving.

So I'll let you know how I progress.

There does not seem to be anything in the maze. Is that right?

I get a hint from the mule when I give it something. I board the boat. I meet the giant, give him a gift, and end up in the desert.

I am beginning to think that the wraith keeps appearing to tell you thae you are going in the wrong direction. One of the three choices which I mentioned above seems to work.

I get to the desert. Should I have brought the bottle assuming I could fill it?

I am now at the fort and get killed by an arrow fired by a gnome.

Don't know what to do next, so I'll stop for now.

Yes, that's right
terri wrote:Should I have brought the bottle assuming I could fill it?
No, you don't need the empty bottle
terri wrote:I am now at the fort and get killed by an arrow fired by a gnome.
You have to use something you allready have in your possession

I have with me:

the shining lamp, the sword, the medal (worn), the flute, and the urn.

I am still thirsty. Should I have done something at the oasis? Or at the flats?

This game is amazing. There is more than one way to reach a location (in some cases).

It seems that you are in the same location, but you are not. Devious.

You get the message "if case of fire, throw dust." I am trying the location where to do that.

The mapping this requires is amazing. Unless you drop something to pinpoint your location, there is difficulty, since some location descriptions are the same (so that should mean you are in a different location - correct?). Very devious. Many would have given up. No wonder few (if any) have managed to solve this. Or even continue to play it. Thanks for your diligence in this. I believe I am getting close to the end, which you have aready reached.

Yes, I have managed to drink some water, but getting back ain't easy.

I have tried various ways to leave the location where I got the message about the fire.

So now I am trying various locations where to fulfill what the hint said.

This is not working out. So specific directions will be needed.

PS I tried to download a "hex editor" but it is all techno-babble to me, so this is not helping me to cheat.

That's all you need
terri wrote:I am still thirsty. Should I have done something at the oasis? Or at the flats?
No, you can solve this problem when you get past the gnome at the fort, but because you allready were in the guardroom (Where you encounter the message about the dust) I suppose you allready found this place and found the way to get past the gnome.
terri wrote:This game is amazing. There is more than one way to reach a location (in some cases).
Yes I noted that to. My walkthrough is only one possibility to solve the game. Many things are random. Not only when you encounter an orc or the wraith but also the chance of killing the witch and some exits in the desert.
terri wrote:You get the message "if case of fire, throw dust." I am trying the location where to do that.
Investigate the hole, which appeared after you entered the fort.
terri wrote: I believe I am getting close to the end
After entering the fort, you're very close indeed.
terri wrote:PS I tried to download a "hex editor" but it is all techno-babble to me, so this is not helping me to cheat.
Yes it's not that easy. You have to make a snapshot of the game. If you do this when you encounter an orc or a wraith and you change the value of location 478 from ff to 00 the orc or wraith are gone when you load the snapshot again.
Location 482 is the room number. You can change this value from 00 to 5A (hex numbers for room 0 to 90). It also is easy to map a maze because every room has a number but offcoarse it's cheating and without someone telling you the actual locations you have to change normally you first have to find these locations on your own which is another kind of adventure :) .
