On behalf of Dimitris Kiminas (from Gamebase64), I've promised to ask whether anyone has played this game - Dimitris is stuck halfway through part one.
Hmm.... Let's see

Hi,
I have it originally on tape...but never got to play it... found it very confusing because of the way you were supposed to interact with it.
But I've found it again now and I will have a look at it... so hold on

Once I get done what I'm doing, and I can't spend time outside cuz it's gloriously hot here) I'll give it a try. I don't play many C64 games, so I've never heard of it before.

I tried to play this, and all I got was music. A small little icon says "joystick". Does one really need one to play the game? If so, that lets me out.

Well, the game is joystick controlled, but every emulator has a built-in "virtual joystick". Usually you can use the arrow keys as a joystick. I use VICE myself - in that, you choose Settings -> Joystick settings and set up whatever keys you prefer from there.

I did try that and it didn't work, but I'll try again.
