I've searched the internet and cannot find any hints, tips or walkthrough for Zenobi's Behind Closed Doors 4 - does anybody have any links or information?

Where are you stuck? This is a game with lots of red herrings, most of which waste much time.
Hints: COMPLAIN about the burger; check out the hole in the tree, for starters. If you're stuck further on, let me know.

Thanks for the prompt reply! Those little nuggets might be sufficient for me to start with. I'll come back to you when I'm stuck next, though is there are list of commands that will work, ie verbs? I'm sure the nouns will be obvious once I know what can be done to whatever.

The verbs are your standard, common ones, with the exception of "complain". There are lots and lots of red herrings. First hint - go east, not west. This is not a long game.

I have to admit to being stuck. My score is no higher than 20%. I've found a) a burger, b) some glue, c) 10p, d) the Gazzette, e) a broken lever, f) the hole in the tree, g) a copy of Probe, h) nutshells. But I don't know what to do with any of these items. Got any more clues? Is that bird that appears overhead now and then another red herring? What about the scurrying creature by the locked gates?

Don't eat the burger - you will need it to get the squirrel out of the hole. This may take some playing around. Get yourself close to the hole, INSERT HAND, and then lure the squirrel out of the hole. There is something you need in it.
Keep the 10 pence till the end.
I presume by the glue you mean the gum. That is necessary for the broken lever.
Ignore the glue, the Gazzette and the Probe, the nutshells, the bird, the scurrying creature, the couple, and the bin.
The sign is important but if you've got the gum, you've already solved that.
Hope this helps.
