This is a pretty good game for beginners, though it is also very old school and unforgiving. After finishing the Inform version of this game, I read about the history of this game. It turns out it was originally written in BASIC in 1982, which shows, but not in a bad way. The game is quite charming. Expect to restart or at least go back to older saves a couple of times, because you get stuck in locations you can't get out of, unless you have found the necessary object(s) first.

But the game is not so big, so it isn't a big deal, and some of the puzzles have more than one solution.

Parser/Vocabulary (Rating: 7/10)

More or less the default Inform parser, which is always fine. A few more alternative commands could have been nice, but no big deal.

Atmosphere (Rating: 7/10)

The introduction is well written but after that, the descriptions are rather terse. I don't think that is a problem for a puzzle game like this, but it reduces the atmosphere a bit.

Cruelty (Rating: Tough)

Though there are several ways to make the game unwinnable, it is usually obvious that it is. Unfortunately, you cannot UNDO more than once in a row.

Puzzles (Rating: 7/10)

Some fun puzzles though quite simple and not memorable.

Overall (Rating: 7/10)

This is a fun game I recommend for anyone who likes old school text adventures.
