Synopsis

While on patrol, your starship suddenly encountered a severe cosmic storm. The shields snapped on automatically, protecting the ship, but the tremendous energy drain as the shields fought the storm burned out all the ship's power crystals. Limping along on battery power, your starship managed to reach an abandoned solar system and attain an unstable orbit around an abandoned mining planet. The orbit is decaying and your starship will reach the atmosphere and burn up in 12 hours. There is just enough power to burn down one person, armed only with a hand laser, and then burn that person back up again with a supply of power crystals.

Unfortunately, the planet was mined out and abandoned years ago. There is a legend, however, that one crazy old miner working an isolated mine in a valley surrounded by high cliffs made a rich strike many years ago without ever telling anyone where he hid the crystals he had found. What's more rumour has it that he was so afraid of thieves that he left a series of traps at his mining camp to keep anyone from getting the crystals.
