Thank you, Uncle Clive

Uncle Clive Sinclair died yesterday. I'm not going to demean him by calling him Sir Clive. To us, in the Speccy community, he was always Uncle Clive. He was Sir Clive because of what he sold; but he was Uncle Clive because of what he gave us. To begin with, Uncle Clive gave me a career. Not personal...

Re: Doem Pyramide

Note that Pyramid has been spelled wrong in Dutch. This should be Piramide.
Hrmph. Officially, of course, you are correct. I'd still spell it with an y-grec myself, if only because the Grecs did.

Yes, I am contrary, thank you very much.

Hm. You call them "ports". I think you're being too nice. I'd call them rip-offs.

Re: Can someone explain these number conversions

Ooh, a Commodore game. I've never had anything to do with the Commie and don't have an emulator for it - being firmly a Spectrum man myself. I could have a look at it, but I'm afraid I'd be starting from scratch and would mainly be guessing.

Re: Can someone explain these number conversions

I only printed a part . The value goes from 1 to 255, If you convert the hexnumbers from the last column to decimal numbers and you look at the gaps the difference between the numbers is as follows from 1 to 255: 1x256 2x64 4x32 8x16 16x8 32x4 64x2 128x1 That makes it even odder - though it might b...

Re: Can someone explain these number conversions

It's weird. They're clearly four-digit hex numbers, and if you plot them, you get something that looks somewhat like a jagged, simplified attempt at creating an exponential graph using integers only. Are they perhaps used in sound generation? Frequencies are exponential, after all. What baffles me m...

Re: The Twelve Days Of Christmas by Zenobi Software ..

As Dave is saying, it's not too complicated to extract a list of all locations (including how they're connected), items, verbs, nouns etc., and if you wee so inclined, you could probably sit down and code the game in BASIC if you're fairly proficient in that language. But I think it would be a lot ...

Re: Infocom adventure game run on PC using Windows FRONZ

Also, there are at least two versions of Windows Frotz, one of which is called WinFrotz. I think they're separate ports of the original Frotz code to Windows, not branches of the same project, but I could be mistaken. And then, of course, there are all the other Windows ZMachines. Filfre and Nitfol ...

Re: Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

Oh, Giant Killer looks like an excellent suggestion - never tried it, so would make for an ideal teamwork project. Thanks! Note that it comes with manuals for both student and teacher, the latter containing some pretty clear hints on the way forwards and how to solve the problems. I don't recall wh...

Re: Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

What's my best bet if I'd like a game with brief descriptions but a good vocab and parser . You're Danish, right? I don't know how appropriate the language is for your daughter (I find such matters hard to judge), but this one was aimed partly at English children and she should at least recognise t...

Re: Best beginner's game in English for non-native speakers

What about a multiple choice game like Danger Mouse in Black forest Chateau . It's not needed to understand every word and it is easier to solve because one can choose a command rather than having to write it oneself. Even without understanding every word you get a general idea of what you are doin...
