Aha! A bit of digging found this. This includes a statement from the author: the Atari version is the original and the Sierra version is licensed!
So it wasn't actually written by the Sierra guys!

Re: duplicate game
I decided to play Cranston Manor Adventure on the Atari, but I noticed it's the same game as Cranston Manor . The locations are mapped a little different than the Apple and the PC version but the puzzles are the same.

Re: Extracting a GAC'ed C64 adventure
Right I think I've got a version that will read C64 GAC files (saved as a vice snapshot: .vsf), or at least on the couple I've tested it on. Some of the verbs may be a bit screwy as the C64 seems to have a couple of extra headers that none of the other version have.

Re: Extracting a GAC'ed C64 adventure
Any chance of a copy of the snapshot? In theory it should be quick to add the C64 format, but it depends on how much of the file format they kept the same.

Re: Duplicate Prisoner Entries?
A quick search on Google found this page where some seems to have got hold of the versions and got screen shots.
The versions that seem to have snaps on WoS are:
No 6, The Prisoner , by Francis A Shailes; neither of the 3 solutions match the game.
Prisoner Number 6 which matches all 3 solutions ...

Re: Time Traveller now released and existing games at half p
If you want to convert GAC games, I wrote a basic GAC player/dumper a while back, which can be found on sourceforge. The version there isn't the latest version, but I can supply you with that if needed.

When booted it just runs the Basic program "hello". You need to tell it to run the game manually:

Re: Screenshots resolution
Some GAC games (e.g. Zed) use the higher res of the CPC. I know of none that use the higher res modes of the BBC though (you only had 32K of memory and the smallest high res screen use 16K for screen memory).

Re: New site name?
Don't lose the domain name! Seriously solutionarchive.com is a good domain name, and if you let it lapse it would end up with the many IGN-style games site that never go anywhere. Getting a new domain name based on "casa" would probably be difficult as casa is a common word in Spanish.

Re: Brian Howarth and the final Mysterious Adventures
Is it me, or does the description for After the Fire sound like the game Lone Survivor
As Lone Survivor only had a C16/Plus4 release as a throwaway I wonder whether it was completed, but never got to full production quality...

Re: WoS's permission.... it's based on a general permission Howarth gave in a newsgroup back in 1998. So they haven't actually been in touch with him.
I missed that somehow (and that's the time when I used to read r.g.i-f. A quick search of the newsgroups does show some tantalising bits, for ...

Re: X-Men
It's possible that a contract was signed for 12 comics/games, which then fell through, I know some of the comics were written (I've seen an electronic reprint of the X-Men one).
We could of course just ask Scott Adams, he's generally friendly (if he can remember the details).

Re: Battlestar solution?
We already have an entry for it, although we don't have any solution yet. This may be one that people can work through if a useful port can be found. (As it's standard C, I can just compile it, although I'm short on freetime at the moment.)
