It really isn't clear. It says:
"Playing as a man once you examine the seats and feel the gap you'll find a wallet, doing the same as a woman will result in the discovery of a purse."
This is telling us about some generic property of being a man or woman. It doesn't at all say "BY THE WAY you must ...

Re: Possible solution problem - Cup, The
Okay, since I started trying to record RZX solutions to these (mostly 90s/Zenobi-era) adventures it has become apparent how many versions there are, not necessarily between platforms (Speccy, C64 etc.) but just different versions on the same platform.

Re: Possible solution problem - The Mummy's Crypt
I found further minor problems with Doreen's solution, but I suppose this may be another case of multiple game versions floating around. I was playing the highest available Zenobi version (v2.1) from here:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/6126/ZX-Spectrum/The_Cup
called "CupThe(ZenobiSoftware).tzx.zip".
I favour Zenobi re-releases when there is a choice (since they've had a chance to fix bugs and generally tidy up annoyances), and obviously TZX is ...

Re: Possible solution problem - 39 Steps
Yes, I tend to feel that a solution is supposed to make it clear how to solve the game (rather than vague hints).
The solution does say hide and that verb is accepted -- it just doesn't seem to do the intended thing.

(solver) Oops, I wrote VISARD but it should be VIZARD with a Z. The puzzle uses each letter of the alphabet once.
