Re: TAB - Windows IF/Text Adventure Maker
Game author Ron Edwards contacted me and reported he had successfully converted one of his old TRS Basic adventures with the "TAB for Windows" adventure system as a test game to share with some friends. Ron has given permission to share it with others who may be interested.
Nice, keep up the ...

Re: New Adventure: ESCAPE FROM THE DEEP (released)
Hey fellow adventurenaughts. I released a game late last year. First one in a while. It's Browser based (HTML 5). Created with Adventuron (c)2017 Chris Ainsley
It's a mystery/escape adventure with elements of horror. It's not massive, but I hope fun to play.

Re: New retro IF game award
I am not 100% sure, but I think the strict deadline was for deciding whether a category should be included or not. If there weren't enough PunyInform games, the poll for that one would not be included. I think that the organizer don't want to bother to check if a game was added before or after 1st ...

Re: RPGs... removal discussion & log
There have been rpg elements in many text adventures since the beginning (The thief in Zork I, Mountains of Ket etc). But I agree that in the general case, CASA is not for rpgs. If the game is a hybrid rpg/text adventure, especially with a parser, I think we should be open to it and trust that the ...

Re: Z-code versions of Dorothy Millard's games incl. menus
Iirc, the automatically generated z-code output from unQuill is not suitable for playing through Ozmoo, or usable on retro systems because of the way it uses the memory. You're not making proper z-code games that way.
Makes sense. Ideally, someone will make versions suitable for retro platforms ...

Re: Z-code versions of Dorothy Millard's games incl. menus
Interesting. I had thought about doing something like this myself.
If it was me, I'd skip the menus and jump straight into the game. Without seeing the content of each menu item, I think they could all be incorporated within the game itself. For example, 'About the Adventure' could be in the ...

Re: Z-code versions of Dorothy Millard's games incl. menus
It wouldn't be appropriate to host them as "fixed games". There's nothing wrong with the originals and that's still the best way to play them to get the proper experience.
Have you seen auraes' zQuill project, by the way? https://gitlab.com/auraes/zquill
As both you and Garry replied, "fixed ...

Z-code versions of Dorothy Millard's games incl. menus
Hi,
Last year I got permission from Dorothy to distribute her games as z-code games, so IF players could play her games without knowledge of emulators.
It is quite easy to convert the quill games with UnQuill by John Elliott. However, it takes bit more time to convert the startup menus manually to ...

Re: ADRIFT platforms
I was updating my Adrift collection and database recently and the thing that really pissed me off was trying to work out which interpreter I needed to run each game. It all boiled down to Adrift 3.8, 3.9, 4.0 or 5.0. It doesn't matter which platform the interpreter runs on, so long as you know ...

Re: ADRIFT platforms
After I started this thread in february 2021, a very good ADRIFT 5 interpreter has arrived called FrankenDrift. It is available on Mac, Linux and Windows and it is highly compatible as it is based on the open source code of ADRIFT 5. In comparison, the Android app Fabularium is less accurate but ...

Re: Deja Vu Graham Nelson
I haven't played that title but others by Graham Nelson. Several of his games are very difficult, much more difficult than most Infocom games I think. I've played Jigsaw and Curses and they are both very difficult. I gave up as I felt I had to resort constantly to the walkthrough very early. But if ...

Colossal Cave entries
Hi,
I have noticed that the database contains entries for individual versions of Colossal Cave a.k.a. Adventure by Crowther and Woods. Most are commercial, but there are also a Basic version (Jim Gerrie), An Alan version, and a Quill version (Paul McGuire).
I think the most important conversions ...

Re: Request for Beta-Testers for ParserComp2021 game: "The Arkham Abomination"
Hi,
I submitted my game to the ParserComp2021 competition. (Even though there may be a later revision or expansion of the game)
FYI, I played and rated it. It was good and I was positively surprised about the parser, since you compare TAB to GAC etc. It would be good if it wasn't necessary to ...
