Re: Random game link failing

The slash is well encoded in the URI. Must be an issue in the rewrite module of Apache.

Re: Clarification about conversions

We are, of course, limited by the existing structure of the database.

Were you to design a reference source for text adventures, from the ground up (rather than a solutions site), then you would create a system so that each version of the game could be listed on the game page with the relevant ...

So what classifies as originally released platform in case of type-in games?

Re: CASA 20 years

Oops, sorry to be late to the party! Happy anniversary, CASA, many heartfelt thanks to Jacob for keeping it running as well as to all those great individuals who share this passion.

I do distinctly remember the first time I got in touch with Jacob, after having been a quiet consumer for some time ...

Re: hi all

Hello and welcome, urbanghost! Nice to hear from someone who is so dedicated at playing (experiencing) games instead of just putting them on a shelf for collection purposes :)

Re: Genre Suggestions

Wordplay. I had thought that Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Head or Tail of It was a one off but I am now aware of another game - Under, In Erebus - that utilises wordplay based puzzles.

Two examples are not enough to create a new genre but if anyone knows of any more please list them. With enough ...

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

The danger we have is that, like many clubs, is that that loudest voices make the rules, often to the detriment of the real target audience.
Exactly.

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

You didn't write it. Others did.

It honours you that you consider how not to scare away users. But this goes both ways, too. After all, all those speed IF games were entered by someone. You can choose which death to die here.

Positive encouragement by suggesting where people could focus their ...

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

"Interactive fiction" = marketing term used in the 1980s by infocom. So hardly an good term to distinguish something from the "classic age".

Drawing the line: if it is truly considered not to allow including some games, then there will be always equivalent ones.which make the decision appear ...

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

Jacob, you say you have to update the "about" section. Sorry, to what? I don't catch your decision. If there is indeed any. On (non-)inclusion of games? On how to organize the information present on the site? (Related, but distinct questions.)

(I'll spare everyone my usual rant about null ...

Re: Competition Entries etc. (split from "Genre Suggestions")

I propose removing all non-illustrated pure text games from the database. Because, you know, I have asked around with my personal friends and nobody plays them. What's worse, inquired further, nobody could even imagine giving them a chance. For games with some accompanying graphics, some showed ...

Re: Genre Suggestions

Some interesting points here. But does anyone really play and enjoy Speed IF or competition games?

Is that a serious question? Sorry to disappoint you, but each year's IF Competition is pretty much the only games I play nowadays.

It should be pretty obvious that those games are much more played ...

Not sure why this would be the case. Could you post the URI of the page you still saw this message on?
