Re: R. D. Foord... type-in mystery

In the opening screen for Timeswitch, it says it is "based on Timeslide by K. Bevan on the 16K ZX-81 in 1984".

Ah, yes, according to The Type Fantastic, the Keith Bevan version (published in Sinclair Programs) was based on Colin Carruther's original.

Re: R. D. Foord... type-in mystery

Thanks, Garry. I'll follow some of those leads up and add the extra ports to the relevant pages.

Re: R. D. Foord... type-in mystery

Hmm... According to Adventure Coder, R. D. Foord went on to write an ST adventure writing system (in BASIC)

R. D. Foord... type-in mystery

All the R. D. Foord Software games we have in the database were Spectrum graphical games that originally seem to have started their lives as text-only magazine type-ins.

Gravely Manor

was a type-in in The Complete Spectrum (uncredited ...

Re: One Step Beyond by Chiang Bros.

I remember spending quite some time researching Anthony and Kenneth Chiang last year and disappearing down a bit of a rabbit hole. I don't think I spotted that game mentioned... but it's sometimes hard to spot a lot of the disk-based mentions unless you're specifically looking for them.

Cool, I'll add that to the database as a different entry. If you have a link to where the file is hosted then that can be included as well.

Re: Uploading game

Just noticed that the language was down as English rather than Danish. Have fixed that. It was probably my fault anyway. ;)

EDIT: Is there an English and a Danish version of the game? Switched the original entry back to English for now. If there's a Danish language version then I'll add a new entry ...

The port of the software is fascinating... Definitely lots of references to add to various entries... Thanks for flagging it up.

(Edit: Tim Gilberts wasn't aware of the TI port, either!]

Yes, this is a known fact. My interview with Harvey Lodder confirmed that "The Ballpoint" was the Smart Egg "system". Said was Smart Egg's programmer.

Harvey was the one who donated the existing Ballpoint files to the Spectrum archives. These files are ...

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

Yes, that was my conclusion after investigating the database of Bugsy C64.

As it was a custom build for St. Bride's it's unlikely any games ever used it, as their later titles were all PAWed which has built-in four word support as standard.

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

Are there any Quill games that use the 4-word parser feature of the extended c64 version? Bugsy doesn't seem to use it.

Yes, like you say, although it was apparently produced for Bugsy, I've not been able to find any evidence that the archived/released version of Bugsy uses it, or rather that it ...

Re: Appleton/The Village... Original source?

Do we know if Walter Pooley also wrote the original version? It could be that it was the original Dragon version that was never released and he later Quilled his own game.

Yeah, it could've been from his own Dragon game which itself wasn't released. Or it could be from his own Dragon game and ...
