Re: Possible problem - Loose Ends

Would be nice to get at least some confirmation that we've helped you resolve some of these issues.

Investigating this one...

Once you've given the helm to the caretaker, quickly pop to the south to scare the cleaner (and make her drop the tomato). Ignore the seats for now and go straight back to ...

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

IIRC, you use the load database command in the Quill editor to load in the UDGs. You just need to make sure you've saved them correctly at the address the Quill program tells you on startup.

So much easier in the PAW... which combined all the various Quill extensions and facilities into one package ...

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

If you're emulating a 48K Spectrum then you can't just type CODE, you need to enter it as a keyword... so CAPS SHIFT then SYMBOL SHIFT (to get into extended mode... which accesses the green keywords) and then press I

(You may wish to bring up an onscreen Spectrum keyboard if that's an option in ...

Oh, I see what you've done... You've missed a chunk out of the solution. You didn't do the seven swans a swimmin'. :) :)

Re: Solution problem - The Twelve Days of Christmas

I'll investigate this a bit further. I can't immediately see why it's not triggering... it's not because of the object issue because the bucket and the milkmaids (and indeed the goat) are actually a single object in the code.

My initial thoughts are the version of the game you have is bugged ...

Re: Gilsoft PAW/Quill

The Quill Editor accepts the following entries:
Verb Noun combination: (each word must be in the dictionary)
_ word (the word is skipped!)
But I don't understand the point of the latter since the word is ignored. It's a pity because it would have been very useful.
It's not really that useful in ...

Re: Tim Hartnell and Clive Gifford's Mysterious Adventures

There are so many type-in books out there that some are bound to be overlooked; particularly for machines like the CPC where most of the preservation effort is being spearheaded by the French community. The Spectrum scene is still plugging type-in gaps and their archives are a lot more extensive ...

Re: Possible solution problem - The Mummy's Crypt

If the drapes are smothering you then you're carrying too much. You can only carry the wirecutters. The solution says to drop everything else (aside from the wirecutters) before you climb up.

Re: Land of the Giants (C64), Dorothy Millard

Yes, there are various known issues with the word wrap and the control codes in (literally) edge case instances like that. It's why, if you look at various PAWed games, you'll see the author inserting a manual line break every so often when using coloured text highlighting.

Re: Land of the Giants (C64), Dorothy Millard

I can remember Quill users like Laurence and Simon talking about this a lot back in the day; and it's the reasons why a lot of their games, and games by other Quill authors, have points-of-no-return in them (such as a one way boat trip); so the very limited number of flags could be reused.

Nah, it'd be impossible to justify or even enjoy that sort of purchase at the moment. Thanks for the offer but there are far better and more needy causes to donate to than unnecessary computers for middle-aged blokes. :)
