Welcome to Lost City adventure. While Softgold seem to produce games that lie in the "reality" realm, Mountain Valley love to make fantasy games (Lost City, Dark Planet, Mystery Island). Lost City is one of those ubiquitous treasure hunting games. The object is to collect 10 treasures scattered throught the 15-20 "real" locations and store them somewhere special. Basically this game is a "Mayan" version of "Mystery Island". This game also has two of the most nasty mazes I've come across in Interactive Fiction on any platform.

There are one or two bugs in this game, but they don't impinge on the game play or its winnability. The bug that first comes to mind is inside the pyramid: you are told you can go in a certain direction, but when you try to go there you are told you cant go that way.... BUT, you can get into the pyramid from the room on the other side, so its a one way thing ^_^

The puzzles in this game are so-so. Some stupid puzzles lead to certain death which really pisses me off. Mystery Island has a few of these types of puzzles too but luckily in both games there are only a couple of them. It's funny where some of the treasures end up....

This game has a few objects that are re-used, so don't get into the bad habit of discarding an object after only one use..

Look at how many moves it took to complete! hehe. Those bloody frigging mazes!! Aaaargh.

Ah the mazes, yes the mazes. This game has a few ridiculous mazes that you are required to traverse several times over. Now mazes I don't mind, if they are nice mazes. These ones are huge in there dimensions. You get no clue as to what directions to take and if you drop objects around to try and map it, well, your objects dissappear as soon as you drop them. Don't drop anything in the maze, it might well make the game unwinnable. See the Hints and Solutions section for complete directions on conquering these bastard mazes.

There is not much more I can say about this game really, apart from the mazes. It's a quite good game, the puzzles are not too hard and not too easy but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners.

I rate this game 5/10.
