Mountain Valley

Their games came out around 1984-85 and had character graphics. There was rarely any plot or real aim of the adventure other than getting to the end. Most problems could be solved with either looking at something or moving it.

Games produced by Mountain Valley are much more fantasy orientated than the games produced by Softgold. These games generally have between 15 to 20 locations per game and most of them have either a "Safe" puzzle or a "Well" puzzle that needs to be solved. As a general rule, these games are often easier to solve than the Softgold games. There is also more of them ^_^

The review of Mystery Island is different from the other reviews as it was published in Spag #12 newsletter (Society for Provention of Adventure Games).

On a personal note, I prefer the Mountain Valley games over the Softgold games.

Notes

Games with dashes in the "Works" column, means that it is not known if the game is winnable yet. (I don't have ALL the time in the world to play them....)

  1. In Dark Planet, its reported that the game crashes not long after you get the jetpack. It is not known if this can be fixed yet and is thusly classed as unwinnable.
  2. Himalayan Oddessy was patched by Andrew Williams, so if your copy crashes all the time, download a working copy from this site.
  3. The Mountain Valley and Softgold versions of King Solomon's Mine are VERY similar but not the same, so don't get confused. (I prefer the Mountain Valley version)
