Moonquake (Moonquake.txt)

MOONQUAKE
by Laurence Creighton
Spectrum 48

You are on the moon. You need to return to your spaceship, overcome the
problems, find a 2000 carat diamond and return to Earth.

Hints:
This is not one of Laurence's better games. There are several unnecessary
red herrings (objects and locations).

You can enter the telescope room and read the VDU and translate the Morse
code message "remember the diamond" but it is not necessary.

You need some specific verbs:
To find the safe, PRESS the SUN.
To get the note, PRY HAND.
To get a chip, CHOP MONOLITH (with an implement).
To get over the boulder, LEAP BOULDER, not jump. Same thing over the chasm.

Can't see even though you have lit the torch? Maybe there is something
blocking your vision? RAISE/LOWER the VISOR.

Need a key to start your module? SEARCH the cave.

You may need to repeat some commands more than once (inflating the tyres,
firing the rifle, digging)

Can't get past the troll? BRIBE him. Can't get past him again on your
return? DROP the ring soon after you pass him the first time.

If a blinding flare vaporizes you, try again. This is random.

Solution:
INVENTORY (wearing a spacesuit, and carrying a rifle, a map, a jet-pak),
EXAMINE SPACESUIT (it has a temperature gauge which will rise randomly and
if you take too long to play the game, you will boil to death), EXAMINE MAP
(of the London underground), DROP MAP, TAKE SPADE, W, READ SIGN (free
parking; the buggy has a flat tyre), W, S, TAKE PUMP (it is chained to the
ground), TAKE HATCHET, N, W, N (you see a thermometer, a barometer, and a
rain gauge – all unnecessary to the game), N (by the edge of the crater),
DROP SPADE, N, N, IN, TAKE PASS, EXAMINE PASS (gets you past security
doors), W, EXAMINE VDU (someone is flashing a heliogram in the garden in
Morse code and pointing at his finger. If you wish to translate, this says
"remember the diamond".)

Go E, OUT, S, S, E, S, E, E, DROP HATCHET, DROP RIFLE, E, IN (in the
moonbase), E, DOWN, DOWN, W, W, INSERT CARD, TAKE HACKSAW, TAKE CUTTERS, N,
PRESS SUN (you see a safe), EXAMINE SAFE (needs a code), DROP CARD, E, E,
UP, UP, W OUT, W, W, S, SAW CHAIN, DROP HACKSAW, TAKE PUMP, N, E, DROP
PUMP, TAKE HATCHET, TAKE RIFLE, E, E, E, E, EXAMINE BODY (there is a note),
TAKE NOTE (you can't), PRY HAND, DROP RIFLE, TAKE NOTE, READ NOTE (9919),
DROP NOTE, TAKE RIFLE, E, SE (you see a torch – ignore it for now), S, HELP
(high-tech firepower might be a (w)hole lot of help), FIRE RIFLE (you make
a hole), FIRE RIFLE (you make a bigger hole), DROP RIFLE, N, NW, N, N, WEAR
JET, LEAP BOULDER, E, EXAMINE DUST, TAKE ROPE.

EXAMINE ROPE (coiled with a wire), CUT WIRE, DROP CUTTERS, S, E, EXAMINE
MONOLITH, CHOP MONOLITH (a chip falls off), DROP HATCHET, TAKE CHIP, TAKE
COIN, W, N, W, LEAP BOULDER, S, S, DROP COIN, W, W, W, W, IN, E, DOWN,
DOWN, W, W, DIAL 9919, EXAMINE SAFE, TAKE DIAMOND, E, E, UP, UP, W, OUT, W,
DROP DIAMOND, W, W, N, N, TAKE SPADE, LOWER ROPE, DOWN, DIG, DIG, DROP
SPADE, TAKE RING, EXAMINE RING (the inscription reads – I am proud, I am
old, I am also made of gold; wear me longer than you need to, no more will
I be here to serve you), UP, E, S, Ex7, TAKE COIN, SE, TAKE TORCH, S, E
(you see the troll).

BRIBE TROLL (he still won't let you pass), HELP (maybe he shouldn't see
you), WEAR RING, E, DROP RING (it recharges), N, HELP (one chip should do
it), N, ON TORCH (it's still dark), HELP (maybe the torch wasn't the right
means to an end), RAISE VISOR, TAKE PLANK, EXAMIINE PLANK (same size as the
chasm), SEARCH CAVE, TAKE KEY, EXAMINE KEY (ignition key), LOWER VISOR, OFF
TORCH, S, S, DROP TORCH, TAKE RING, W, WEAR RING, W, DROP RING, DROP CHIP,
W, W, N, N, W, W, W, TAKE DIAMOND, INFLATE TYRE (until it does), ENTER
BUGGY, N, DROP PLANK (it's too short), LEAP CHASM, ENTER MODULE, EXAMINE
SWITCH (needs a key), INSERT KEY, START MODULE. You are finished.
