PROTECT AND SURVIVE By Leslie Floyd Armageddon and Creame Software Spectrum 128 This is a tidy, logical, straightforward, yet moderately challenging game (other than the spelling mistakes). It has an intriguing premise which you get only at the end – a nice subtle touch. It does not give false or obscure clues, nor does it make you retrace long distances. Part 3 is not as well-written as the other two, but that is forgivable. Hints: As well as making a fallout shelter, you need to prevent the windows of your house from absorbing light, radiation, etc., you need to disable power coming into your house, and you need to have two protective pieces of clothing. If you wish you can read the newspaper more to find local colour. Some objects you find in part 1 are needed in part 2 or part 3. Some objects you find in part 2 are needed in part 3. Other than the torch, if you have not used an object in that part of the game, take it with you to the next part. How to cut off the power supply to your house? Cutting the wires doesn't work, so you need to short-circuit the wires first. How to do that? Find some other metal that will do that trick. Having gone to all that trouble, check out the electrical appliances after the bomb goes off. The ID card functions more like a credit card. Can't apply for a job. Say "hello" in their language. A cute little Scottie dog menaces you? Become violent with it. What you get will help you with the other dog. EXAMINE and SEARCH are not the same. A few "tricky" verbs. When you have the magnetic coil and a stainless steel object, you can MAGNETIZE <object> at an obvious location. Solution: Part 1: SURVIVAL You are Harris.
