FORGOTTEN ISLAND Fantasy Software Spectrum 48 This is one of the most insipid games I have played in a long, long while. It has more red herring than actual objects needed. The verbs are very limited. There are several places you can die, and with all the unnecessary objects, it takes a long time to finish, though the game itself is short. The most challenging “puzzle” is determining which two objects are needed. Two hints: something to get past the gates (you just need to be holding it, no need to “open” anything), and something with which to break the chest and the chains. I leave it to you to determine which one to do first. At least that’s an easy challenge. Since there is a limit to the weight of thiings you can carry, drop one of them outside the gate and pick it up later. You are to either rescue the princess or take the treasure. Despite these instructions of two choices, you can actually get both if done in the correct order. INVENTORY (nothing), E, E, E, TAKE HAMMER, E, EXAMINE TREE, LOOK (something fell), LOOK, TAKE KEY, EXAMINE KEY (letter C on it), W, W, NE, NE, N (at the gate), N, DROP KEY, N, E, N, N (you see a chest), SMASH CHEST, TAKE TREASURE, S, S, W, S, TAKE KEY, S, DROP TREASURE, N, N, N, W, (in a dungeon with chains), SMASH CHAINS (the princess is freed but the hammer is broken), TAKE PRINCESS, E, S, S, S, DROP KEY, TAKE TREASURE, S, SW, SW, SW, You are finished.
