Dungeons of Antur, by Ricardo Oyon Rodriguez Walkthrough by Andrew Schultz This game was a submission to the 2021 Text Adventurer Literacy Project. It's a hybrid text adventure/dungeon crawler. You can get a few different endings I tried to track--the possibilities are neat, and the graphics are very nice indeed. The walkthrough tries to adjust for all possible random enemies. The key is to find as many treasure chests as you can before moving on. It's random which enemies appear in which rooms, and I think this randomness is tested each time you visit a new room. What I suspect happens is that you have an assortment of random enemies, and each time you visit a new room, one in the list pops up if there's a successful roll e.g. with 3 enemies and 5 candidate rooms unvisited, the next has a 3/5 chance of housing a random enemy. Trivial keystroke-saving tips: in some cases, you can use a singular form of the noun, and you can ATTACK instead of, say, ATTACK SPIDER. Also note some new rooms or fights may take time to load, especially if you have a slow connection, since the game has multimedia. It hasn't hit an infinite loop. And finally, you can save repeatedly to save hit points, but it's not necessary for the best ending. >>X DOORS >>TALK >X SKELETON The tutorial says GET KEY, but it doesn't tell you everything. If you read carefully, there's something else to take. It's useful. >GET BONES >GET KEY >UNLOCK DOOR >N >ENTER (IN doesn't work in this game, but it does so much else right.) >>X DUMMY >>GET DAGGER >X TABLE >GET APPLE >GET TORCH Strictly speaking, the apple isn't necessary if you get REALLY good rolls. It restores 5 of your 10 HP, so don't eat it when you're above 5 HP Now, the bucket has two uses. You may get something from reading it, but it's needed to win the game, and it also may help you defeat the final enemy. I'm going to go with the "be open to the violent ending" option. >>READ BUCKET A clue for what to do elsewhere. >WEAR BUCKET Your armor class goes up by 1! This will probably save a few damage points. >>ATTACK DUMMY Here it's not 100% clear which weapon to wield to optimize your combat skills. For a skeleton, which is much tougher than a spider, you may wish to flee and >WIELD BONE, as the dagger doesn't work. However, the spider does so little damage that >WIELD BONE all the way may work. You can probably >WIELD DAGGER if a spider is there with little loss. For a zombie, >WIELD DAGGER. You should be able to flee and switch items as well. There's a small chance you'll take damage. Use the apple if health gets low. There should be another one. So I think the bone probably works better. The enemies are random. But spiders and zombies aren't nearly as tough as skeletons. >WIELD BONE >N >E >E >W >W >W >W Now you can move freely, since you've wiped out all the enemies in your way. Note you could have filled up the bucket right away to go a bit more quickly but lose a few hit points. You still have enough to get through the main dungeon, but you may not wish to risk it. >REMOVE BUCKET >E >E >S >GET BUCKET Note here you can say e.e.s.fill and then n.w.w.pour and use the up arrows to save time, since you have to do things twice. >FILL BUCKET >N >W >W >POUR WATER Hey! Almost! You can't quite reach what's In the well! Let's try it again. >E >E >S >GET BUCKET >FILL BUCKET >N >W >W >POUR WATER Oh, don't forget to boost that armor class back up now you're done bailing water! >WEAR BUCKET >GET LEVER You've probably seen where a lever might be useful. >E >E >E >E You may notice the map has a location to the south. You also probably noticed the gate. >PUT LEVER Okay, you can go south! >S >OPEN CHEST The contents of a chest are random. Opening the chest may give a mace (3 damage) or short sword (3 damage) or leather armor (1 armor) or helmet (1 armor, not better than the bucket). WIELD the mace or sword or WEAR the armor or helmet. This is the case for any chest you find. Also, drop the dagger if you find it, and take all gems. You probably won't have anything too heavy, but even if you do, trace back. You don't know which jewel you need, so take it along. If you have the dagger and get the sword or mace, drop the dagger. Keep the femur. A blue potion will drain your health to 1. So don't bother taking it. If you have an unknown potion, know that there are only red and blue, so finding a red potion means the unknown potion is blue and unsafe, but finding an eplicitly blue potion means the unknown potion is red and healthy. You will always find a red potion. Also, eat an apple if your HP are below 5 points, so an ambush doesn't kill you. (Unless you don't mind save-and-reload.) You'll want to save an apple or red potion but not both. Red potions heal a bit more. If you get very low health, they're obviously very nice. The apple and red potion help equally in one spot, so use what healing you can. An apple also seems to appear reliably in each chest you find if you ate one. But maybe that takes away from the chance for another item. I don't know. >N >W >N >TOUCH WALL Another secret passage! >E >OPEN CHEST >GET ALL >W A small detour for a clue. This may cause a bit more damage, though, since there may be a random fight, and you may improve your armor a bit later. >>N Oh, hey, a closed grate. >>E >>X SKELETON >>X NOTE >>GET NOTE >>READ NOTE >>DROP NOTE >>W >>S That done, let's get to the top of the map. >S >W >W >N >N Rats! The grate is closed this way, too. Notice something about the room to the south? It has a pressure plate. >W >PUSH ROCK Only one way to push it! >E Use the up arrow twice to save keystrokes. >PUSH ROCK Again, only one way to push it--well, one constructive way. The rock goes on the pressure plate. That room is now blocked off. You may be worried about the dark ahead. There's a way to light your unlit torch here, but don't do so yet. Also note there is a small bug/unwinnable state if a player behaves reasonably but unexpectedly. If for whatever reason you light the torch before the secret central room and try to go back to it, 1) do not drop the torch at the bridge and 2) if you approach from the north, you must go west/east or east/west to access the secret passage south, even without a torch. This is minor, but it's possible to forget in a rush. Whether or not you deserve an unwinnable state for not planning is a nontrivial question, but it's there. >E Oh no! The dark! Well, it only kills you if you try to escape north. Remember the skeleton's note? (You can go east if you haven't.) >S >OPEN CHEST >GET ALL >N >W >LIGHT TORCH >E You don't have any practical reason to go east, even if you haven't been there yet. A fight may drain health, and the clue there, you've already used. >N >W >OPEN CHEST >GET ALL Your inventory may be a bit full, now. But you actually only need one weapon. Drop all but the femur, if you need space. You can come back later, since your inventory will be emptier. >E Oh, hey, an old man! >GIVE CANE TO MAN Here, you can either give him nothing, give him an apple or give him a red potion. There's a slightly different ending each way. Also, you can not even give him the cane. >E A random undead will appear, aghost or spirit. What to give them? From experimentation, it's not based on what the undead is (ghost or spirit) but what their color is. >GIVE RUBY TO (RED IMAGE) >GIVE EMERALD TO (GREEN IMAGE) >GIVE SAPPHIRE TO (BLUE IMAGE) Now you can get what the apparition was guarding! >GET OLD KEY >W Now if you dispose of the werewolf to the north, the beggar will disappear. So you need to interact with him before that. The below is optional for the best ending, and if you want to see them all, save right here. You have a choice to avoid the next command. >>GIVE CANE TO MAN Again, you have a choice, though this time it's between doing nothing and two other actions. If you have an apple and red potion, and you want to beat the werewolf in combat, give the apple so you have, in effect, a few more hit points. The ending is the same. >>GIVE APPLE TO MAN >>GIVE RED POTION TO MAN Now to beat the werewolf in combat you may have to use save states and get a few good rolls. You'll probably need the leather armor, too. And healing helps a lot, too. But there's another way! It is probably the only one if you're really low. >GIVE FEMUR >OPEN DOOR The undead's key gets you in. >ENTER >TALK KING And you get your final evaluation, based on what you gave the beggar/king. Only your gold and a curse if you gave him nothing Only your gold and a curse if you gave him only the apple or the potion 100 gold if you gave the cane, though he notes you didn't give him the potion, so you failed the test. 250 gold and "hero" if you gave the cane and the red potion 250 gold and "hero" if you gave the cane and the apple (this is nice as you aren't pinged by bad RNG, though it slightly contradicts the "you didn't give me the potion" in the non-hero endings.)
